Well, to be fair, Chewna, the squad needed a wide player or two - to enable it to play in just about any formation (4-2-3-1, 4-3-2-1, 4-3-3, 4-4-2). The 4-3-1-2 brought some results this season, but in large part it was born of necessity - a consequence of Esposito, Giuly, and Mancini having been 'replaced' with Baptista and Spags' having to concoct a midfield built around four central players. And at times it made us look solid but inguardabile. If Menez finds his feet, then having Guberti and Cerci too about might just recorrect the imbalance of the squad. I've not seen enough (any) of Guberti really to know what he'll bring; I like the fact that he's Italian and promising - I'd rather we gambled on a player like him than on someone like Riise or Baptista, say - but it's hard to believe he's the kind of player who's going to allow the squad to make a much needed salto di qualita'.

Perhaps he is. I wonder what Populusque thinks - he's usually pretty good at getting us depressed over our transfer moves.

The Esposito comparison is a good one, stefano - he, after all, arrived off the back of a couple of good seasons in Serie A rather than Serie B. Perhaps Esposito will get an opportunity this season. Phat chance.

Yeah, he is. It was just a loan-deal this season, I think.
