I supporter blaugrana festeggiano per le strade della capitale insieme con i giallorossi, "vendicati" per le sconfitte rimediate contro il Manchester

ROMA, 27 maggio - Circa 300 tifosi del Barcellona hanno scelto la Fontana di Trevi per festeggiare la vittoria della Champions League ottenuta stasera battendo all'Olimpico di Roma il Manchester United: una decina di tifosi a torso nudo o con la maglia della loro squadra si sono tuffati nella vasca accompagnati dai cori dei loro compagni. I vigili urbani li hanno subito fatti uscire, formando un cordone lungo il bordo della fontana, ma questo non ha frenato la loro gioia.

Oltre all'inno del Barca, scandito da un tamburo, tanti hanno intonato lo slogan "Copa, Liga e Champions", in omaggio alla storica tripletta conseguita dalla loro squadra che quest'anno ha vinto il campionato spagnolo e la Coppa del Re. Tanti i cori contro i rivali storici del Real Madrid, accompagnati da trombette da stadio e anche dallo scoppio di un petardo. Sul posto è giunta anche un'auto della guardia medica per soccorrere eventuali tifosi colti da malore.

Parecchi sostenitori 'Blaugrana' hanno schizzato i loro amici con l'acqua della Fontana, agitando le sciarpe dei loro idoli. Anche dalle finestre che affacciano su Fontana di Trevi sono in molti quelli che hanno inneggiato al Barcellona, esponendo anche qualche bandiera. I caroselli dei tifosi iberici sono stati salutati dagli automobilisti romani con colpi di clacson di incitazione: un 'ringraziamento' per la sconfitta inflitta al Manchester, che due anni fa battè sonoramente la Roma.

Some time ago I discovered this interesting Roma 1984 related logo but can't find an explanation for it other than some spam from the Legio Romana forum...anyone have a clue about it?

Interesting point...does anyone else here remember when Baggio was finally considered to be past-it for an Azzurri call-up, Brasil said they'd gladly take him if they thought he'd play for them?

Rome confounds critics with smooth showpiece

ROME - The Stadio Olimpico turned out to be the perfect setting for Barcelona's Champions League triumph in Rome with off-the-field problems failing to spoil the party like some had predicted. The pitch was especially in perfect condition, allowing treble winners Barca to stroke the ball around in their trademark style and easily beat holders Manchester United 2-0 on Wednesday.

Despite having AS Roma or Lazio play there every week for the past nine months, the surface was as smooth as a Xavi pass. Fans make atmospheres, but only in great stadiums can an occasion really come to life and the 67,000 sellout produced some wonderful colour from United's Matt Busby tribute to the sea of red, blue and yellow at the Barca end.

Roma and Lazio are considering building their own stadiums and the future of the Olimpico is uncertain. Despite the running track which leaves fans a little away from the action, the pair will struggle to construct anything as monumental. United coach tender Alex Ferguson is probably bemoaning the running track, which kept him a good distance from the pitch. He rarely ventured out into his huge technical area to bark orders as his team put in one of the weakest performances their fans will be able to remember in a big match.

Indeed, United's surprising nervousness was the only let down of the night, which neutrals had dubbed 'the dream final' between Europe's best two attacking teams. United keeper Edwin van der Sar, who lost the 1996 final when Juventus beat Ajax at the Olimpico, was sick of the sight of the stadium. "It's true, Rome doesn't bring me luck," he told reporters. "We started well then after the first goal we suffered and we didn't play at the level we are used to."

Violence in and around the ground had marred previous European matches in Rome and UEFA even threatened to take the final away at one point if more trouble ensued. Britain's Times newspaper called for the game to be switched to another venue because of fears of Roman gangs with knifes. Two stabbings were reported in the city on Tuesday and there was some minor trouble after the game, but it was little more than happens at any big soccer clash.

"Rome's future candidature for other international events depends on the success of this showpiece," mayor Gianni Alemanno said.
The ancient city, which hosts the world swimming championships in July, is mulling a possible Olympic bid for 2020 and Wednesday's flawless final is sure to help its case.

Pauly, the big problem with Trezeguet is finding a compromise on his supposed current market value plus of course his salary demands...and once again, quite aside from that, we have to ask if we can afford to have a goal poacher rather than a full contributor to our attacks.

If Our Lady's regime continues then I don't think we can although she may find the money to buy him. On the other hand if we are sold to whomever, I'm more inclined to see Tommaso's point on preferring a younger player...though if we also had a younger, faster midfield to compensate, Trez could still do a job for us, as 'Moldo rightly mentions.

I too would like to see Okaka brought back and given more playing time as I spoke some time ago about. We need to know whether he really has what it takes or is just another promising youngster who only looks like he might...

and yes, we MUST tie Motta down. That's a summer priority!

Is Rosella raiding the Roma bank accounts? Maybe. At the end of March the club had a net operating income of nearly 32 million euro. At the end of May, the club had a net operating loss of nearly 19 million. Something stinks and I don't mean Rosella's pisciocca.

Here's a good one. Giovanni, perhaps you should ignore this post for the good of your health. I was just checking out Lippi's , and in it there areFIVE, yes five, ex-giallorosso youth players who we let go through the years:

D’Agostino (Udinese), Galloppa (Siena), Amelia (Palermo); Chiellini (Juventus), Pepe (Udinese)

Granted, Chiellini may not have technically been a youth product, but we had him for a while, and perhaps players the calibre of Galloppa and D’Agostino won't quite make the Azzurri squad for a meaningful game, but still it saddens the heart a little to see so many ex-primavera players who have slipped through the net.
