Roma could sell goalkeeper Doni and defender Philippe Mexes [pictured] this summer as they look to overhaul their ailing squad.
The Giallorossi are in real danger of not qualifying for the Champions League after they lost 4-2 to Lazio on Saturday.
Roma lie sixth in Serie A and are now eight points behind fourth placed Genoa with just seven games left this season.
Doni is being linked with a move to Manchester City, although the prospects of the English outfit buying another keeper so soon after signing Shay Given are slim.
The Italian Press believe the Blues are ready to pay £14m for the Brazilian, though, and Roma, who are in desperate need of cash, are willing to sell.
Doni has struggled with several injuries this season and has been very unsteady when called upon by Coach Luciano Spalletti.
Roma would consider replacing Doni with Cagliari stopper Federico Marchetti or Pelè, who plays for Le Mans in France.
Mexes, meanwhile, has also become a scapegoat for the Giallorossi's defensive frailties this season.
The former Auxerre youngster scored on Saturday but was also sent off and Spalletti is believed to be losing patience with the 27-year-old.
Milan have long been admirers of Mexes and need to address problems at centre-back as Paolo Maldini retires and Alessandro Nesta continues to struggle for fitness.
Jeremy Menez, the French trequartista who signed from Monaco in the summer, is also rumoured to be on his way out.
The 21-year-old is far from happy with the lack of first team football at Roma and is ready to split with the club.
Menez has made just 15 appearances for the Giallorossi this season despite injuries to Francesco Totti and Rodrigo Taddei.
apparently we do so every year Tuna. Problem is that this year we're not in the CL and don't have the salary power to tempt people to stay for another year...
Anyways, it makes me think. Although most fans often throw Spal under the bus for what occurs, it might be hard to argue that he does seem to lack, at least to me, a sense of inspiration, a type of 'go-get-the-job-done' type of guy. I often question his low level, non-emotional type of demeanor, which if we like it or not, might rub off on the players.
Another thing, it was just sickening to me to see the Olimpico, once again, so full of fuckin Laziele on Saturday. Those mother'F'ers just made my gut turn inside out whenever they were waiving their pathetic flags and cheering after every goal. I can't wait for the day, however long it takes, for our Tifosi to have their own stadio.
That, in my estimation Jamoldo, is one of the biggest problems in Serie A, they don't give young and talented players "a chance." If Curci played at Siena and did much better than Marangon playing for an average team, he will do great at Rome.
On another note, Mexes is suspended for three games (I would like to know what Carlo thinks of that). Both Panucci and Spalletti are suspended for one game each:
Great post Italiama...full of history and memories. It is like traveling to Rome and being a fans for decades when reading you. Unfortunately, our great history and love for this team has not been accompanied with much victories.
About Hiddink, there s no need to worry, he will never in a near future replace Spalletti.
I was actually just talking about some of those stupid Roma "fans" we have there on the Offside...just talking nonsense after our loss this week end. They do not know what to invent sometimes...
Mexes suspended for 3 games...what the fuck did he do to deserve such a punishment???
I m sorry but I dont get it...those referees in Italy are still corrupted or what???
I think I understand the suspension Frenchesco. Mexes is a loose canon. Although he didn't actually hit or hurt the other player, he had been warned before about his play. He already had a yellow card. Then, on that particular play that led to the red card, you can see that Mexes was fustrated after the ball went offside as he decided to follow the Laziele offside and entice him into a confrontation, about 2-3 feet offsides. They met almost face to face and exchanged words, with Mexes seeking some kind of action which resulted in both pushing each other.
My point is that Mexes should have known better. Seriously, he is such a nut case that he can't control his feelings or anger. You would never see most players, such as Riise, or a Juan lose their wits so easily. A good player must learn to let go any thoughts of himself being superior and he must focus on his game and his teammates. I think that Mexes is an idiot that deserves what he got. Although it hurts our team, if it was another player for another team, I would like to see the same penalty given out.
Three games is excessive in my opinion. Mexes is emotional, which is one of the reasons Roma fans like him other than the fact that he is a solid CB. I agree he needs to be careful, but to be honest, I did not see him do that much to even warrant a red. Same for Panucci. Lazie are an inferior team. Inferior teams do these things when they know they are out matched in talent. Unfortunately for us, our boys let them get to us. Where was Toti on Saturday? I realise that he gets no service but where is the leadership?
Regarding Doni. Everybody here knows that I have never been a big fan. He has developed into a good keeper but he has some glaring weaknesses that always surface at the wrong time. I don't think I will blame the third goal on him however. He does have the reflexes from close range and maybe he could have done better but the 4th goal, as embarrassing as the run was, should have been stopped. I understand there was alot of room out there with us being with 9 men, but the shot was weak in my opinion.
If Doni goes I will not cry. Considering that he now has an attitude which may me affecting his play, he can go back to Brazil for all I care. I say we go with Curci. He has more upside anyway.

A three game suspension for Mexes is complete horseshit. The fact that the ref gave him a straight-red instead of a second-yellow – which was all that incident deserved – really fecked us over because it let the disciplinary commission punish Mexes for the scuffle which ensued the incident. If he had of gotten a second-yellow that would of been it. But really all Mexes was guilty off was pushing and getting involved with the lazie player, hardly a straight-red offence. A ridiculous decision which clearly was the reputation of the man going before the incident.
And I really don't agree with laying all this blame on Doni. Its all a bit extreme. Christopher had a go at him as well on his blog, I see. Sure, he didn't cover himself in glory against la lazie, but he didn't make any glorious blunders like some seem to be suggesting either. He had no chance with the first or third. The second was a difficult one – a crazy swerving shot which moved in the air from a position which no one expected him to shot, and Doni was a little off his line and it whistled over him. For the last one, sure he may of done better, but it was a free shot from the edge of the box after some woeful defending from the Ginger one. How about blaming Panucci and Mexes for not controlling themselves and hurting the team? Or Brighi or Perrotta for disappearing for large parts? Or Baptista for being born with elephant feet? Or Totti for a lack of leadership or input? And with these silly rumours of Man Citeh willing to spend €14m or whatever on him (rumours which were surely started by his agent or someone who wants him to leave) people think we should cash in on him and that will be the answer to all our problems. Yeeeaah ok. Doni has been one of our most consistent performers in what has been a very inconsistent season. Could the same be said for anyone else in the side, except for Daniele? Getting rid of Doni is not the answer.
I know I know, Stefano. But thats the rumours which were flying around, although like I said I don't think there's anything in them and were likely the creation of someone close to Doni himself. But the simple fact is that he is our best keeper, one of the best in Serie A, the Brazilian number two, and the best keeper we could realistically hope of having this season or next. We can't afford to buy anyone better. Curci is a fine young keeper but still has a bit to learn (he will likely get there), but isn't anywhere near Doni's level, this season or next.
Anyway, anyone here like golf? Or read the American magazine 'Golf Digest'? I started a new job last week, working on the Irish version of Golf Digest (each country has its own version of the magazine, deriving from the American). Its been flat out busy and a good hard work (hence why I haven't had much free day-time lately), but I'm enjoying it.
