Adri could quit the game

There are whispers in Brazil that Inter enigma Adriano could quit football after his latest bout of wanderlust.

The Brazilian marksman disobeyed Inter's orders to return after travelling to his homeland for World Cup 2010 qualifiers last week.

Adriano seems to be in a fragile mental state and his future is up in the air.

According to Brazilian newspaper Lance, L'Imperatore told Brazil Coach Carlos Dunga that he wants to quit football after the fixture against Peru.

The 27-year-old has struggled to adapt to life in the spotlight and reportedly returns to the favelas where he grew up regularly.

It remains to be seen whether Adri will cut his promising career short and hang his boots up at such a young age, but he is unlikely to play for Inter again.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter president Massimo Moratti will meet with Genoa counterpart Enrico Preziosi at the end of this month to discuss the availability of Brazilian playmaker Thiago Motta and Argentine hitman Diego Milito.
It is suggested that the Nerazzurri are prepared to splash out to secure the South American duo and could also agree to let David Suazo and Robert Acquafresca join the Grifoni in part-exchange deals.

Meanwhile, the Nerazzurri are keeping tabs on Udinese starlet Kwadwo Asamoah and are ready to offer the services of defender Nelson Rivas, striker Jonathan Biabiany or midfielder Rene Krhin to help bring the 20-year-old Ghanaian to the Stadio San Siro.

Moreover, the Via Durini directors are still keen on Palermo defender Simon Kjaer and are willing to put €7 million on the Rosanero’s

1. Juve will never sell Buffon. No matter how much has been offered, he is a Juve icon.
2. Ballack for free I wouldn't mind, as long as its a 2-year contract max. But, yes as you guys said, we need a younger player. IMO, Ribery will be the best option. He (apart from Messi) is the best player going around.
3. Briz, yes you are right. If we do get Milito, the jump in quality isn't much, but I'm sure we can't spend the big money on both positions (Forward and Midfielder), so really who do we need more?

Inter’s Brazilian striker Adriano has stunned the football world by declaring that he wants to quit football for the time being, allowing himself to sort his own personal issues out.

This latest saga came about when the ‘Emperor’, who was supposed to return to Italy last weekend following the international break, failed to do so, as he supposedly missed his initial flight.

He has been with his family in Brazil ever since, and he has also just spoken in a press conference, whereby he has made these sensational claims concerning his immediate future.

Its sad about Adriano. A man who has the ability to be a top player but is just a little fucked in the head. Frank, I'd imagine all that is to be sorted out between his agent and Inter in the coming days/weeks. Clearly Inter won't be still paying him if he violates the terms of his contract, i.e. not playing football.

Adriano could quit Internazionale after announcing plans to take a break from football for an unspecified period of time. The Brazil striker called a press conference in Rio de Janeiro yesterday to announce plans to give up football as he has "lost the joy of playing". The 27-year-old said the break could last for "one, two, or three months". Adriano cited the enormous pressure of playing in Italy, saying he does not want to return to Europe at the present time.

"I have stopped my career for a while because I have lost the joy of playing," he said. "It could be one, two or three months. There is big pressure in Italy. I don't want to return to Italy. I want to live in peace here in Brazil."

Adriano said he will use the time to consider his future, dropping a strong hint that he does not see himself returning to Milan. "I was not satisfied," he said. "Everybody has the right to be happy in his job and I was unhappy in Italy. I will rethink my career. I am happy in Brazil alongside my friends and my family." The former Sao Paulo forward insisted he was healthy. "I am not ill," he said. "Adriano is not dead. I am not going to any hospital. I will try to restart, try to rediscover the joy of playing. The situation has arisen because I was not happy."

The player received support from the Inter coach Jose Mourinho, who said he hoped Adriano found happiness away from Inter even if that meant he had to stop playing. "Inter have done everything to help Adriano before I arrived and with me, as a coach and human being, so have the president and his team-mates," Mourinho said. "We'll see. The important thing is that he's happy. If he's happy like this, if you lose the player but the man is happy, perfect.

Adriano failed to report back to his club after last week's World Cup qualifier against Peru and was later found to be staying with his mother in Rio de Janeiro. It was thought he would go back to Italy next week but his representative, Gilmar Rinaldi, confirmed that would not happen. Rumours have been spreading all week as to Adriano's situation, but the striker sought to put the record straight.

"A number of things were published in newspapers," he said. "Everything I did was speculated on. I talked to my family, my friends and my agent. I am doing all this thinking of my happiness."

This is not the first time that Adriano's Inter career has been called into question because of the player's off-field situation. In September 2007, he was sent home to Brazil by Inter as he was unhappy, and he went on to join Sao Paulo on loan for six months before heading back to Italy. Adriano said that he does not expected to be paid by Inter while he is absent from the team, and said he had no ill-feeling towards the club. "I have no bad feelings for Inter," he said. "I just dislike living in Italy. I felt I was pressured. I felt big pressure when I was 18 years old [when he joined Inter from Flamengo]. A lot of people will not understand. It is a bad situation, not easy at all, but it is a choice. Gilmar is going to Italy to ask for some time for me and it is fair that I am given no money."

Adriano added that, if he resumes his career in Brazil, he wants to sign for Flamengo. "If I play in Brazil, it will be for Flamengo," he said. "If not, my grandmother will kill me."
