TOTTI CALLS FOR FIGHTING SPIRIT

Roma know they must re-discover the fighting spirit which helped them finish second last season as they hit the last stretch in Serie A. Draws against Inter Milan, Udinese and Sampdoria as well as a 4-1 thumping at the hands of Juventus have suddenly left the Giallorossi on the back foot as they go into Sunday's home game against relegation-threatened Bologna.

Their shocking defeat to Juventus left Roma five points behind fourth-placed Genoa, who hold the last Champions League qualifying position with nine games remaining.

"We want to play in the Champions League next season," said Roma captain Francesco Totti. "In order for that to happen, we must win all of our remaining games and hope that teams that precede us slip up. It's going to be a difficult task because the last nine league games are going to be a battle and Fiorentina and Genoa are playing very well."

Injuries have hindered the Eternal City outfit this campaign, with coach Luciano Spalletti having to make changes to his starting XI week by week.

Sunday's game will be no exception. The Giallorossi will have to overcome the absence of top scorer Mirko Vucinic, who is sidelined with a groin injury. Vucinic joined Alberto Aquilani, Rodrigo Taddei, Cicinho and Juan in the physio's room.

The good news for Spalletti is that Daniele De Rossi, David Pizarro, Souleymane Diamoutene and Marco Motta return from suspension. More importantly, Totti has shaken off a knee injury which sidelined him in the last four league games and will replace Vucinic in Roma's attack.

"The international break has been useful to recover some players that were injured," said Spalletti. "One of them is Totti, who is set to play against Bologna."

Strugglers Bologna travel to the Italian capital in desperate need of points. The Rossoblu have collected just one win from its last eight matches and find themselves just two points clear of 18th-place Torino. Coach Sinisa Mihajlovic is feeling the heat but is confident his team have what it takes to turn things around.

"I can lose a battle but I have never lost a war and I am confident I will win this one," he said. "If the team fails to defend its Serie A status, something which has never crossed my mind, I will take full responsibility. However, I know my team's value and I am completely confident that we will avoid the drop."

Bologna have relied heavily on Marco Di Vaio's goals and Mihajlovic admits that others, and specifically Pablo Osvaldo must share the scoring load.

"Osvaldo has to give much more," he said. "He needs to take responsibility, it cannot be that Di Vaio must always score."

Di Vaio is Serie A's top scorer alongside Inter Milan's Zlatan Ibrahimovic with 19 goals notched while Osvaldo has yet to find the back of the net since joining Bologna in January from Fiorentina. Bologna welcome back Gaby Mudingayi, Claudio Terzi and Cristian Zenoni return from suspension.

On that Chivu subject, the fact that he had to go play for inter makes it hard for me to digest. So a bigger salary offer came from Inter and he took it, if he had any ounce of decency and respect for the Roma organization, and the fans, then he could have at least gone somewhere else. I understand what you say about salaries, etc., but damm, why Inter?

Yes, yes, yes! Those words from Totti are the kind of spirit is what this team needs!
