Mourinho: "No one can criticise Inter"

MANCHESTER - After shaking hands with every Manchester United player after Wednesday night's Champions League round of sixteen return, JosÃƒÂ© Mourinho analysed his team's performance at Old Trafford.

"I'm not angry," he told Italian journalists. "You're angry and frustrated when your team doesn't play, when it doesn't express its qualities, or when it's afraid of playing. This is the kind of match after which, if anyone has anything to criticise my team about, they would have to kill me first because Inter were fantastic tonight, but it's not easy to play at Old Trafford and unfortunately luck wasn't on our side."

Inter reacted in the best possible way against United after conceding goals in the fourth minute of each half. "You could feel the fear (in the home crowd), but then that goal came at the start of the second half. A fantastic goal, but a goal that was a consequence of our defence's not brilliant preparation for high balls. My team showed great personality, had many chances for an equaliser, including Adriano's, and I think even he doesn't understand why the ball didn't go in.

"I saw a team with great personality and this why I'm sad now for who has never won this competition, and who won't have the chance to do it this year either, and for the fans who watched the game at home and those who followed us here to Manchester. I'm sad, but very confident that the Scudetto will be ours. We played against a great team and now I can say that if Inter suffered from a psychological complex in these big games, like they said, this fear is no longer there. Perhaps we can attribute the defeat to a footballing problem but I won't discuss this with you, I will do it with my club. I understand your culture, maybe the whole of Italy is happy because Inter have been knocked out of the Champions League, but I will give the club all the necessary replies because it's true that we didn't win today but I can say that we were unlucky. I won in this stadium with Porto by fighting a lot less.

"Manchester United were stronger than us, but our play and effort deserve a lot more than a 2-0. It was a completely different match to the first leg. Inter played with confidence and tranquillity, made a mistake from a dead-ball situation but it's not possible to change a reality that sees six Manchester players one metre and ninety tall, and just one Inter player as tall as them. The team did very well on the pitch, we played in three different ways, we did everything to change the result of the match, we were unlucky, but I saw an Inter that played with personality and this is fundamental. Not being frightened of nothing or anyone is fundamental."

ok .. to be fair .. if they were facing any other club.. esp the likes of sporting and villarreal.. they be in the QFinals as well.. so hard luck guys

It is not a matter of getting into the QF's.If we need to progress in the CL we have to face teams like ManUre and Barca one way or the other.

The simple fact is that Inter don't have to players to do well in the CL. We need to spend on two players who can give us that jump in quality. Otherwise we would be exiting the champions league like this, year in year out. As we found out from the performances of the three Italian teams, playing your heart out is not going to get you very far. We need the quality to make the difference.

We have a lot of extra baggage like Jiminez, Crespo etc.They should all be sent packing and we must bring in players that we can actually reply on and players who can deliver.

start by getting players like Sergio Aguero .. and building a stronger team.. im sure mourinho knows how to do this.. he helped MAKE chelsea what they are today.

assuming that he stays of course.

i dont really see mourinho leaving inter next season.... real have juande (who will get a year to prove himself) ... and chelsea (well he wont go back, big boss doesnt like him)
