Jeez certainly a quiet around these parts eh. Having only seen the match on Monday evening and not really having time this week to delve into the reactions and recriminations of the media and of the managers and the players, and looking at things from a simplistic point of view, I think what a lot of people – or indeed what the entire calcio nation – are failing to do, or choosing to ignore, is to look back and marvel and appreciate at what a fabulous game of football we witnessed on Sunday evening. Of course, its easy to get mad and dive head first into the scandal and Interpoli talk and what have you, but isn't it a marvelous little archetype of how the Italian media, the calcio supporters, even the Italian mindset, choose to focus completely on the negative instead of on what was a spectacular end-to-end game of football. I'd dare anyone to watch that game and at the end of it turn around and call Italian football negative or boring. But of course, that is all lost because no one talks about the game, everyone just focusses on one incident which was a 50/50 call, a very tough decision, and a peno which could of been awarded in any game, in any league, regardless of who was playing.

I've made my views on this whole "scandal" and "favouritisim" and "cheating" malarky more than clear (the kids over on the other place have been having a field day over it all – I would say its good for a laugh but idiocy gets tiresome at such levels. But I suppose Chris feeds them well). Why would these referees be encouraged to favour the 'big' teams? Or to put it another way, why would these refs be afraid to make the harsh calls against these big teams? What, exactly, is in it for them? Look at what happened to Nicola Rizzoli, Sunday nights refs, who is now going to be demoted to officiate in Serie B by Collina. Now why the feck would whoever is refereeing Inters game next week give them a soft peno or a favourable call if it meant he would be reprimanded? It is just human error, poor officiating, and happens on every pitch in Europe. But in Italy is has to be more.

demoting the referee for missing that call is complete bullshit. if figc think that the call was bad then they should be punishing balotelli; you can't blame a human referee without the assistance of instant replay for not getting it right.
