Adriano risks ban for D-day goal - Monday 16 February, 2009

Inter striker Adriano could face a ban for using his hand to score during yesterday's Milan derby.

The Brazilian was a hero for Jose Mourinho's side as he put them ahead at San Siro, but Milan were livid as the ball made contact with his arm.

Now the Italian Football Federation has announced that the incident will be reviewed by judge Gianpaolo Tosel tomorrow.

Fiorentina hitman Alberto Gilardino was given a two-game ban earlier in the season when he used his arm to score against Palermo.

If referee Roberto Rossetti states that he didn't whistle because Adriano's gesture was involuntary then he won't face action, but if he didn't see the use of a hand then he could be given a two-match suspension.

It would be a substantial blow for Adriano, who had made a case for a regular first-team place with a goal on the biggest of stages.

It was clearly head-to-arm.. look at 59 secs into that video and you can see it but they have better angles than that one in some replays.

Meh, I'm not concerned. He wanted to score with his head. He got contact, head first, then rebounded off the arm.

At 59 seconds it's showing Stink bitches gol. At 51 seconds it almost clearly shows the ball going in straight off of his bicep. But for arguments sake, lets say it did hit his head first. I don't know if you've ever played soccer but it would impossible to 'unintentionally' score with his hand from where he was standing. The ball would hit his arm and hit the ground before the line, maybe even wide of the gol. Adriano pretty much guides it in with his bicep/arm.

Volontarily...non volontarily...suspension...no suspension........who the fuck really cares?

We got the win, we killed Milan's hopes for the Scudetto, can concentrate on Man Utd...and if the suspension is confirmed, Adri will have some rest for that match. I dont bloody care, Mou can easily use Balotelli or anyone else on saturday. Actually, I also hope he rests Ibra too against Bologna.

It just makes serie a look like a joke when the same guy who scored after punching someone in the stomach, scores what will probably be the title decider, with his hand.

It's all in your head Bagg. These things happen everywhere in the world as long as this sport is being controlled by human beings. No one will look at the Serie A as being a joke for this, apart from the sore Juventini of course.
Oh well I guess it was much more of a joke when Juve were winning leagues only to then be relegated for cheating. That really made the Serie A look like a joke. To each his own, I guess.

I'm not offering a conspiracy story Lomba, the Interisti made up enough of those in 05. The state of reffing in Italy is a travesty. How the ref allowed that goal yesterday is beyond me.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is confident Jose Mourinho will stay at Inter Milan for the foreseeable future. Mourinho fuelled speculation over his future last weekend by refusing to rule out a possible return to Chelsea.

Ibrahimovic has played down the rumours and expects the Portuguese tactician to stay in Italy for a while yet.

"He has a long time to go as a trainer before he will think about going back to Chelsea," Ibrahimovic told The Guardian. "He has a contract here and I think he will respect that."

Ibrahimovic believes Mourinho can inspire Inter to victory over Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League later this month. Inter moved a step closer to retaining their Serie A title on Sunday with a 2-1 win over city rivals AC Milan and Ibrahimovic believes a repeat performance could help them dump United out of Europe.

"If we play like this we will beat United," added Ibrahimovic. "He [Mourinho] has changed our mentality a little bit. We were good when he came but he's teaching us something new. We have become stronger and better and are hungry for the big games."
