i think its fair to say that weah and shevchenko [part 1] were brought in for their incredible talent on the field. everything else was just minor details.

beckham was brought in to sell shirts seats, and friendlies. but boy were we pleasantly surprised when our gamble turned out to have some character on the field.

its not really as black and white as 100% sporting or economic reasons. but you can definitely make a generalization of why a player was brought to the club.

Reports are rife with speculation that Milan are planning early in case their coach jumps on Chelsea's ship...

Carlo Ancelotti could leave Milan at the end of the season, and former midfielder Leonardo is poised to take his place on the Rossoneri’s bench.

The Italian coach is being linked with a summer move to Chelsea and, according to Sportmediaset, he will be replaced by the Brazilian.

Leonardo has been taking coaching lessons and the club are already planning early to ensure that there is no gap should the Blues prise Ancelotti away from the San Siro.

Reports claim Roman Abramovich is lining up a mega deal to convince the Italian to leave Milan and head to London. Many will remember Ancelotti's meeting with the Russian tycoon in the summer. It is believed the ball started to roll in Ancelotti’s mind then.

Leonardo has also hinted at his ambition and Sportmediaset quote him as saying, "I am studying to coach Milan."

The Brazilian's past with the Rossoneri and his close ties with the club have seen him become the ideal candidate in president Adriano Galliani's eyes.

However, such a dramatic move could prove fatal for the club as Leonardo does not have experience at the highest levels. Milan expect rapid success on every front and the Brazilian may not guarantee this.

Yes, Leeds...hardly on the same level as us now? It would be a far better example if it was a club similar to our stature; not a medium sized club trying to compete with the big boys. You act as if no other team in the world spends money on the best possible players to win more trophies.

For the record, I think Shingai is right on Leeds, right on the 'not 100% sporting reasons' and essentially wrong on the rest - you don't, I think, need to resort to the rhetorics of exaggeration to communicate your ideas here and I think here the exaggeration undermines the argument. The proportions are so dissimilar in the cases you're comparing as to make them differences of kind. If Beckham wanted to sign for Milan for sporting reasons that in absolutely no way impinges on the argument that Milan bought him for reasons that were almost entirely not sporting-centred.

forget the percentages - original shevchenko and weah moves, as sporting as they come. the latest beckham and shevchenko moves, as un-sporting as they come.

There's probably a possibility for Leonardo to takes over from Carletto...
He is the one that make the Mattioni,Thiago Silva and Pato came to Milan with Bargain price....
It almost like he is building his own team before he actually take the post...
He is an intellegence guy anyway,Im sure all of the sport science philosophy he learns will help the team...
He knows the Berlusconi transfer policy and surely knows about Berlusconi reluctant to splash big money for a player....
All of the youth players he bring to Milan with his influence is the best in brazil....
I dont see any problem with it....
Maybe he can change from the overdependent towards old legs to a mix between the youth and the veterans...

No sure if it would be a good idea to bring him as a coach, Im inclined for Rijkaard at this point (Carlo can go to Real or Chelski for all I care)

Maldini to coach next year?

Maldini has said a bunch of times that he won't become a coach. he'll probably be given some kind of director position at the club, but he doesnt want to coach.

i am also against the idea of great players becoming coaches (like maradona and even donadoni). because if they suck then you'll just be caught in a limbo of what to think of them.

i can't see any reason why NOT to bring rijkaard in next season. hes proven, hes former milan player, and he has a great coaching philosophy.
