i think perotta is the new pirlo in the sense that he is one of the most underrated midfielders of the game. are there any other players that are similar to him (besides brighi)?

I'd actually quite like to see a 4-2-3-1. Perhaps Roma's troubles at the beginning of the season have shown that that formation can't work any more (at this point in time, at least). Still, I'd like to see it, with something like DDR-Pirlo, Camoranesi-Perrotta-Rossi behind Toni. I think you'd get more from Toni in that formation. It'd suit Cassano too, wide-left, say, and Di Natale could also play across the trequartista line. Otherwise, a 4-1-4-1 or a 4-4-2 but with a diamond, again with Perrotta through the middle, close to Toni. I just think DDR's increasing ability as a regista means you want to play Pirlo a little bit higher up the pitch. I suspect that's also what's happened to Pizarro for us.

Bagg, nice reply, a few posts back. I too would prefer to let someone else be the fall-guy with the favorites title and yes, a 2-1 defeat which I think would have been a more realistic show of the balance of power on Wednesday would have given our Italian mentality a kick in the ass to do better...

A shame it happened to be a defeat by Brasil though, 2 amateurish mistakes to say the least costing us 2 goals. I didn't like some of our very nervy defending and some unnecessary harsh tackles by friendly game standards which earned yellow cards. Pointless bitching about how on another night we might have got a couple of goals from our missed opportunities...the report card still reads, can do better!!!

Rossi Rules Out Manchester United Return

Villarreal striker Guiseppe Rossi has admitted he is not interested in returning to England to play for Manchester United.

The 22-year-old spent two years at Old Trafford before moving to Spain to join Villarreal back in 2007.

However, Manchester United are said to have a clause entitling them to have first option of signing him, should he decide to leave the Spanish side.

Yet, according to the Daily Star Sunday, the American-born Italian has revealed he is not tempted to return to the Premiershit and hinted that the lack of opportunities at Old Trafford had been a major source of frustration.

“There are no points to be proved to him [Sir tender Alex Ferguson] anymore,â€

I think the 4-3-3 is right for Italy now... The new era of football is no longer producing true side midfielders. It is all a bunch of attack minded wide men who aren't physical enough to play as a true second striker...

I really think Lippi needs to turn the page here. WC2010 is not looking good because we will be between generations. Let the new guys in... that's what I say.
