Branca refutes Vieira move

Inter technical director Marco Branca has guaranteed that Patrick Vieira will be staying at the club.

The experienced French international is reportedly a target for former Arsenal teammate Tony Adams at Portsmouth.

However, Inter director Branca has moved to put an end to the speculation surrounding Vieira's future.

Jenas and Drogba on Inter's radar

Inter Milan boss Jose Mourinho has conceded he is weighing up bids for Didier Drogba and Jermaine Jenas before the transfer window shuts.

Former Chelsea chief Mourinho has been alerted to the possible availability of both players, given that the pair have been out of favour of late at Chelsea and Tottenham respectively.

Chelsea boss Luiz Felipe Scolari has not selected Drogba in recent weeks, prompting speculation he may leave Stamford Bridge.

And while Mourinho remains a keen admirer of the Ivorian, with whom he won two Premiershit titles during their time at the Blues, he stopped short of suggesting he would actively seek to prise Drogba away from West London.

"Jermaine Jenas and Didier Drogba - these are both players that I like," Mourinho wrote in The Daily Telegraph.

"Drogba is a very special player for me, there is no doubt about it.

"We had a great relationship at Chelsea and he was an important player for me.

"Will something happen? I don't know."

He added: "I like players adapted to my style of play, my philosophy of play. If I know them and have a good feeling from the past it is better, but I always feel I can create this kind of good feeling with players that I have never worked with before."

Mourinho also admitted he has been a long-time admirer of Jenas.

But with his reluctance to enter the transfer market, Mourinho said it may be that a trade deal would be the only way of bringing the England international to Italy.

"I never worked with him (Jenas) but he is a player I have followed," he added.

"When he was at Tottenham, even when he was at Newcastle, he was a player that I liked very much. Who knows?

"If it is true that Tottenham have some targets in the Inter squad, then why not?

"Maybe then there is a possibility of doing a swap. But everything is harder in January and I don't think Inter will go into the market."

Adriano's volley sank Sampdoria - who wanted a late penalty - and kept Inter three points clear, but Jose Mourinho was sent off!

Things weren't going swimmingly for either side, as Inter saw their lead wiped out by Juventus following a 3-1 thrashing at Atalanta, while Samp had one point from three games. To make matters worse, Zlatan Ibrahimovic was suspended and Antonio Cassano out with a neck injury, so the teams had to do without their talismans.

Samp also missed Stefano Lucchini, Hugo Campagnaro, Pietro Accardi and Bruno Fornaroli, so Angelo Palombo had to improvise as a defender. Jose Mourinho dropped Mario Balotelli, Luis Jimenez, Nicolas Burdisso and Olivier Dacourt.

Inter were unbeaten against the Blucerchiati since March 21 1999, a 4-0 mauling at Marassi. Douglas Maicon's header from an Esteban Cambiasso corner was deflected over.

Marius Stankevicius burst down the left and had penalty appeals for a tussle with Sulley Ali Muntari, while Cristian Chivu charged down Mirko Pieri's effort. The Blucerchiati had a rare period of pressure after 20 minutes wasted when Paolo Sammarco ballooned over the bar from the edge of the box.

Stankevicius also fired well over, but Andrea Raggi timed his intervention perfectly to prod Javier Zanetti's cross off Adriano's head from six yards. It was a brave intervention and he got a knock to the head as he did so. Raggi was stretchered off as Inter took the resulting corner kick.

Samp survived that scare, but Sammarco was booked for an elbow as he jumped with Muntari, prompting a cut on the Ghanaian's eyebrow. From that free kick, Adriano's fierce strike was just over.

Walter Samuel's weak header was straight at Luca Castellazzi, but there was controversy as Adriano was caught on camera being a bit too physical in his tussle with Daniele Gastaldello, apparently punching him in the stomach.

The tension was sky high and moments later Jose Mourinho was sent off for dissent. The Inter Coach leapt off his bench and shouted 'What are you scared of?' at the referee.

Amantino Mancini ran on to Maxwell's pass only to blast well wide from inside the area. Soon after, Muntari's cross-shot hit the side-netting.

Adriano was totally unmarked from seven yards when Stankovic's cross came in, but he attempted an acrobatic volley and only managed a fresh-air shot. He had the time to chest it down or even go with his head, but went for the spectacular option.

Adriano got his goal in stoppages. Douglas Maicon skipped past Pieri down the right and chipped the cross to the back post for Adriano to volley in from a couple of yards. His shot was cleared on to the post by a desperate defending, but it was not enough to keep it out.

Samuel had a muscular problem and was replaced by Ivan Cordoba, who had been frozen out after his error in the Atalanta debacle. There was immediately bad news for Sampdoria, as Gastaldello pulled up with a muscular problem and was stretchered off. He was one of only three available defenders in the entire squad, so Padalino had to come on and adapt.

A Palombo defensive error allowed Mancini to set up Stankovic, but the shot was too central and Castellazzi smothered.

It got even worse for the Blucerchiati, as Raggi suffered a groin strain and left his team with only one defender. Reto Ziegler came in and maintained the 3-5-1-1 system.

Julio Cesar anticipated Gennaro Delvecchio as he prepared to tap in from six yards.

Stankovic was unlucky not to double Inter's lead with a sudden snapshot from the D that cracked against the crossbar with Castellazzi beaten.

However, Sampdoria risked an equalised and there was panic in the box moments later. Julio Cesar had to come tearing out to clear as Giampaolo Pazzini sprung the offside trap, but Cordoba performed a crucial tackle.

Dessena was dispossessed in midfield and Muntari surged forward, but his shot was beaten away by Castellazzi with some difficulty and Cambiasso fired the follow-up off target.

Julio Cesar again had to rush out to anticipate Claudio Bellucci from six yards as the substitute pounced on a loose ball. Bellucci couldn't redirect his header from a Padalino cross, while Pazzini wanted a penalty for a tussle with Cordoba that may have seen the Colombian handle the ball.

Maicon's free kick whipped across the face of goal to just miss Cordoba's sliding finish at the back post.

Luis Figo replaced Mancini and immediately his disguised pass sent Muntari clear down the right to cut back for Stankovic and Padalino's brave intervention.

Samp had more complaints on 80 minutes. Padalino's cross was flapped away by Julio Cesar, but only after Pazzini felt he was shoved over by Cordoba. Coach Walter Mazzarri was furious at what he felt was a spot-kick.

Chivu went off injured for Maxwell in the final stages and there were six minutes of stoppages. Stankevicius drilled wide from 30 metres, but could not break Inter's first clean sheet in eight rounds.

At the 95th minute Sampdoria had a great chance, as Julio Cesar flew to palm away a long-range strike from Dessena!

Inter Fans Try To Fight With Tuttosport Journalists
A number of Inter Milan fans were seen attempting to fight with reporters from pro-Juventus paper Tuttosport.


Jose Mourinho is not the only one fighting against the Italian media as Inter fans fought with a number of Tuttosport journalists during Sunday's game against Sampdoria.

The 'Special One' was sent-off for venting his fury against the referee during the 1-0 win, however, it was the Nerazzurri’s fans who caused a stir after invading the press box to fight with journalists from pro-Juventus paper Tuttosport.

Fcinternews.it claims a number of Inter supporters climbed into the press box to vent their fury against the Turin-based journalists after the paper had published reports claiming Jose Mourinho was on Juve's side after his alleged outburst following the loss to Atalanta in Round 19.

Headlines above Mourinho's picture appeared in Tuttosport last week with the words "One Of Us."

The Nerazzurri tifosi were furious, confronting the journalists during half time on Sunday night. Reports suggest tempers were heated and a number of swear words and abusive phrases were hurled towards the reporters from Turin.

One fan even tried to fight them, but security quickly intervened to calm the rising tension.

Tuttosport have always taken swipes at Inter and matters have generally got worse since Calciopoli. The Turin-based paper is known to lean towards the Bianconeri, while La Gazzetta Dello Sport is a pro-Inter publication.
