Hahaha Maro......that is a funny story. The professors here at UCLA, as far as I'm concerned, do not look and dress that bad, YET. But due to the sign of the times, maybe in a few years (maybe months) that might be the case with some of them.

Btw, what do you teach? It's not Language, or things associated with tautological phrases is it?....

I did see that goal, Populusque. Pretty slick. The best part, though, were the French commentators who properly let their tongues hang out over it. It was hilarious. Pauly, I teach the things that are constructed out of language rather than language (or linguistics) itself: letteratura.

Interesting discussion gentlemen. You do well to point out that much of the texture of modern language is overlooked as people rattle of figures of speech as if they were simply programmed to do so. I often try to deconstruct contemporary phrases that I hear around me, usually resulting in a personal smirk or chuckle.

Bordeaux picking up Gourcuff's option is a foregone conclusion, annual budget of 60m or no (and I believe it's closer to 100m, if not more). They can pay the 15m and flog him for 25m+ the very next morning - and get it. They can't afford not to pick it up.

Glad, I think that remark may have been a bit too fleet-footed for one or two of your combatants over there. Wit isn't something they have too much experience of, I think.

Chris, I suppose an obvious alternative is for Bordeaux and Milan to come to some kind of agreement - whereby Milan get him back while offering Bordeaux some compensation for their development of him. I suspect it might be considered poor form for them to do that to Milan, if you will, and they may want to preserve good relations there with an eye on similar deals and other possibilities in times to come.

Good chance that compensation could be in the form of loans to Bordeaux. Whatever the case, if/when he returns to Milan it surely won't be as simple as not picking up his option.
