QPR and veteran Tommasi part ways

Former Italy international midfielder Damiano Tommasi is leaving Queens Park Rangers after his contract was terminated by mutual consent. The 34-year-old former Roma player arrived at Loftus Road in September and made seven appearances for the club.

"I have enjoyed my time here very much but I understand football, and things change. This is normal. I want to carry on playing - I'm not sure for how long - but I feel there is more in me to give."

Pauly, why have you stopped posting over on the offside altogether? You've still got some friends over there, no? I think I wrote a response to your classical music question but then got interrupted right at the end and never posted it - sorry about that. It depends a lot on what you like. If you like tone poems like the Smetana (you know, programmatic music), then you might like Sibelius or something like Rachmaninov's 'Symphonic Dances' or 'Isles of the Dead'. Rachmaninov's second piano concerto was one of the first pieces that blew me away; Mozart's 40th and 41st symphonies did similarly, though now I'd suggest you listen to one or two of his piano concertos - 9 is extraordinary, 11 a favourite of mine, 21 one of his most popular, and I think 16 and 18 are majestic pieces of music. If you like choral music, then I think Faure's 'Requiem' is stunning. Chopin's 'Nocturnes' everyone loves; if you want some easyish chamber music, then you might try Schubert's 'Trout'. Beethoven's op.132 string quartet and 9th symphony are two of the most astounding pieces of music I know and actually the Brahms and Beethoven cello sonatas are really fabulous. Another lovely, accessible piece is Brahms' violin concerto and the cello concertos of Elgar and Dvorak are also very popular. Of course that's loads to get to know, but if you listen to bits and pieces you might get a sense of what you want to pursue. vtec will recommend Bach who is also simply extraordinary but I'm not sure he's not more difficult than one or two of those Romantic pieces.

So what's the line-up going to be this weekend, gentlemen? Pizza at the top of the diamond to start with, with Baptista alongside Vooch up top? And then with Aquilani and Menez to come on at some stage in the second half for Pizza and Brighi/Perrotta/Baptista? I suspect we may see Cicinho instead of Cassetti, too - Spags has made a habit of picking Cicinho against Milan. I suspect it's because they don't carry as much of a threat in the air and don't have their forwards run the channels. It will be a technical game which probably suits the little fella. I've a bad feeling just on the basis of the way we got rolled by Milan the first game back after Christmas six or seven years ago - a result which ended up being quite decisive as they powered on to win the Scudetto and we faded away after an excellent first half of the season. Maybe this will be an inversion of that? And certainly we've got a good record against them of late. I trust the Fonz. If there's anything with a long enough neck to be able to peer into the future it's got to be the schlongie.

Pace and power is the way to beat Milan, Juve showed that. If Roma leave the game to be a technical battle, it could play into Milan's hands.

A Brighi-De Rossi-Perrotta midfield would out work the Milan midfield and prevent them getting time on the ball.

Milan's defence wouldn't be able to cope with the pace and power of a Menez-Baptista-Vucinic three in front of that.


I predict a score draw, with Roma left outraged by the referee.
