Inter Add Samuel Eto’o To Striker Wish List
Barcelona’s Samuel Eto’o is the latest attacker to be linked to the Nerazzurri, according to the latest reports.
Samuel Eto'o has been in tremendous touch this season as he is the current top scorer in La Liga, and has been pivotal to his side’s dominant start this term, as they hold a ten point buffer atop the Primera División table.
It's fair to say that Eto'o hasn't always been the most stable character at Barcelona, but this season he certainly seems to be reformed.
Since Pep Guardiola’s arrival at the helm of the club, the Eto’o of old, who sometimes played for himself rather than the team, seems to have gone, and he is once again scoring goals for fun.
Despite this however, rumours surrounding his future continue to emerge, with Inter Milan being the latest to reportedly express their interest in the star striker.
According to the Catalan daily Sport, Inter are considering a move for the Cameroonian international, adding to the likes of Diego Milito, Didier Drogba, Carlos Tevez and Michael Owen; players that the club have been linked to in the past.
The reports suggest that the Barcelona hitman is at the top of Nerazzurri president Massimo Moratti’s wish list, but only from next season, when Adriano could realistically make a move away from the club.
These latest reports are yet to be confirmed, and if you are an Inter fan, don’t get your hopes up just yet, as the future of this player may very well be in Barcelona, especially if the Catalans offer him a new multi-million dollar contract.
The constant trouble with Brazilian striker Adriano has forced the club to seek alternate options in an effort to replace the star.
Adriano has returned to Inter Milan’s training base following his vacation in Brazil, but his stay at Inter seems to be close to an end. The player arrived a day late for training again this week, and coach Jose Mourinho has had enough of his antics.
The club is now willing to sell Adriano, but there are two main problems standing in the way of his departure. The Nerazzurri want at least 15 million € for his transfer and they want to find a replacement during the January market window.
According to Telelombardia, the main players targeted to replace Adriano are Chelsea striker Didier Drogba, Diego Milito from Genoa and Cagliari’s Roberto Acquafresca.
Drogba cannot play in the Champions League with another club this season as he is cup tied so an attempt to lure the attacker is likely to be made in the summer. Twenty-nine-year-old Milito is the next best option in the minds of the Nerazzurri, but Genoa consider him off limits on the market.
This leaves 21-year-old Robert Acquafresca, who is set to return to Inter in June, as he is only on loan at Cagliari. The youngster lacks experience at a top club like Inter, but the situation may demand that he be brought back earlier than expected.
Think of this as a love story. A real one, with the inevitable peaks and troughs, misunderstandings and suspicions and rocky ending. It begins in the spring of 2001, when Inter Milan’s scouts become smitten with a man-child at Flamengo in Brazil. At the very beginning, it’s about the numbers: 6ft 3in, 14st of angry muscle, with a sprinter’s pace. But it’s the relationship between the striker’s left foot and the ball that leaves them open-mouthed. He can smack the leather off it or he can race with it up the pitch as if there were Velcro on his big left boot.
Inter Milan will not make a move for Genoa star Diego Milito or any other player in the January transfer window. Argentinian striker Milito, who is among the leading scorers in Serie A with 12 goals so far, has been strongly linked with a move to the Italian giants.
However, Inter Milan transfer market consultant Gabriele Oriali told on the club's official website the club has no plans to buy this month.
"The intention of the club and of our coach is to continue with the same group that we have," he said. "Milito is a great player and we tried to get him two or three years ago before he joined Zaragoza.
"But we are happy with the players we have and we will not intervene in January."
The future of Brazilian forward Adriano at the San Siro still remains uncertain, however. Adriano has been unsettled in Milan and has been linked with a hosts of clubs, most recently Manchester City.
"Our intention is to keep him (Adriano)," Oriali said.
"But it depends only and exclusively on him. Adriano knows what he has to do and how he has to behave. January is a cold and long month. There is time but as I have said before, our idea is to keep him."
Around a year ago, Milan managed to sign an important young player like Mathieu Flamini from Arsenal on a free transfer, as the Frenchman's contract ran out last summer. This was considered a major coup, and Gunners coach Arsene Wenger was obviously displeased.
Inter have no real replacement for Brazilian ace Maicon in the right back role, and that is why they are keen on bringing in the Ivorian international.
Estudiantes defender Marcos Angeleri has also been linked to a January move to the Italian champions, but the Arsenal man may be seen as a more appealing signing due to his versatility, and because he has a EU passport thanks to his part-Belgian nationality.
Adriano will not be moving as the soap opera regarding his future continues to twist...
Inter transfer consultant Gabriele Oriali insists troubled striker Adriano will not be leaving the San Siro, ruling out a move for Genoa striker Diego Milito in the process.
No-one really knows what the future holds for Adriano, but a number of reports around Italy have suggested the striker is on his way out.
His latest antics when arriving late from holiday didn't go down well with the club, fuelling speculation over his uncertain terms.
However, Oriali has defender the big hit-man and the signs from the club seem to be pointing towards a stay.
"Everyone wants to keep Adriano, but that all depends on what he wants to to," Oriali told Sky Sport Italia.
"Our intentions are to keep him and it would be good if he returned to the form of two or three years ago.
"It wouldn't be a bad thing as he could help us with out objectives. He doesn't have to do anything else, apart from doing what he did before."
Serie A's current top-scorer Diego Milito has been linked with the club after Jose Mourinho said he would like to sign the striker. Oriali, on the other hand doesn't agree.
"The intentions of the club and coach are to continue as we are, and with the players we have," added the former player.
"Milito is a great player, but we are happy with who we have and we will not be making any signings."
Blog: Tantalising Tevez Shouldn’t Inter be capitalising on the Carlos Tevez situation at Man Utd? Steve Wilson thinks so
Inter need a striker who will do the dirty work in the second half of the season that Zlatan Ibrahimovic won’t lower himself to get involved with. Meanwhile, Manchester United won’t, or more likely can’t afford to, pay to make one of their world-class forwards a permanent member of the squad. Add in the fact that said goal-getter, Carlos Tevez, is an Argentine – like so many other components of the Nerazzurri puzzle – and the deal seems a no-brainer.
Nobody can question Ibrahimovic’s ability – he is a net-rippler par excellence. The only problem is more often than not his strikes are sublime efforts rather than scrappy tap-ins. It is a shocking revelation to discover that nobody other than Ibra and wing-back Douglas Maicon has scored more than three goals for Inter this season in Serie A. They may still be top of the table, but they need some extra firepower, someone who can battle and fight, someone just like Tevez.
Diego Milito has been ruled out as a target, Julio Cruz has remained lumbered with the super-sub role, Hernan Crespo is in the wilderness, Victor Obinna is untested in a title-chasing side and Mario Balotelli has yet to get off the mark. That leaves Jose Mourinho with just Adriano to rely on as back-up to the Super Swede – can Massimo Moratti really risk the championship when an outlay of around £20m would add a vital injection to the club’s attacking options?
The amazing thing is that the barrel-chested brawler is even available. He as good as matched English equivalent Wayne Rooney goal for goal in all competitions last season and is only a few strikes behind this term – despite playing most of his games from the bench. Aside from goals he offers just as much hard-work and brawn as Rooney – yet the Scouse would never be sold by tender Alex Ferguson and it appears he will never be deposed by Tevez as United’s No 1 either.
As well as adding a lethal element to the Serpenti’s mix the transfer would also allow Apache to win himself a regular place at a club which has no domestic equivalent already on their books. The deal would also rob Inter’s Champions League opponents of a key squad man ahead of their last 16 clash. With the fee going to agent Kia Joorabchian rather than the Old Trafford side, the obvious stumbling block of selling an asset to a direct rival is also side-stepped.
Of course, we don’t know what is going on in the corridors of power at San Siro. As pundits our currency is speculation and conjecture. However, Moratti’s currency is cold hard cash and if he really is serious about seeing Inter conquer Europe and maintain their dominance on the peninsula then he must act now with a smash and grab raid for the South American. It would be a short-term fix and a long-term investment – and perhaps the smartest bit of business he has ever done.
Genoa are ready to sell striker Diego Milito to Inter Milan this month.
Gazzetta dello Sport says despite denials from Genoa directors, they're prepared to send Milito to Inter in exchange for £16 million plus three loan players.
Genoa would rubberstamp the deal if Inter included striker Mario Balotelli, defender Davide Santon and midfielder Luis Jimenez in their offer.
