Gladiator: I just saw your post regarding pele. wow, that sounds like good news to me. I have been an advocate for the replacement of Artur, since the fellow does seem a bit shaky to me. I will give Artur the benefit of doubt, since he did look semi-good against Bologna with two nice saves in the 1st half. But I don't know, I think that if Pele is as good as he sounds, and he is willing to come to La Roma, then we are in great business. No doubt, Marangon can't be healthy all of the time, so to have a solid back-up is a must!

Btw, I hope you don't mind, but I will copy and paste that quote from Pele's agent on Theoffside so our fellow Romanisti can see what's going on......

yeah, artur is still a question mark it seems but i dont think he's had enough time to show what he is worth. to be fair, he was only beat twice so far...by two outstanding goals from daniele conti and cicinho that not even san gig buffon could have saved.

Yeah, the problem with Artur, or the apprehension, stems from what happened during pre-season and how he got rocked with numerous goals. I mean rocked! But then again, it was just pre-season, but that still said something about the back-up situation. In reality, if we can up-grade our back-up, and since it sounds like Pele would like to come to our team, than even better

Btw, You guys are a pack of lose cannons here! Really, I mean it. Some of those comments that I've read here for the last two weeks have been hillarious! Talk about busting balls! Or nuts! Haha!

I wish I had half the wit as some of you, but hopefully I will catch on

Anyways, great to be here. It certainly adds more flavor to see the other half of the more experienced Romanisti here on this blog

i'm interested to see how this devlops but if he does come, i guess we can pretty much kiss the other half of curci goodbye.

ROMA READY FOR CATANIA TEST

The month of December offered plenty of successful moments for Roma and the Giallorossi will be looking to end it on a high note when they travel to Catania on Sunday. Roma go into the clash in Sicily riding an eight-match winning streak in all competitions.

The Eternal City giants qualified for the Champions League knock-out stages as winners of the group and will meet Arsenal in the last 16. Roma captain Francesco Totti is relishing his team's tie with the Premiershit side.

"It's going to be a fascinating encounter against Arsenal, " said Totti. "A difficult one but nevertheless an enthrilling tie."

In the meantime, however, Totti and Roma must concentrate on the domestic competition. The Giallorossi have all but forgotten their poor start to the campaign and look in fine form as they continue to reduce the gap with the top four. Sunday's 3-2 triumph over Cagliari, courtesy of a last-gasp Mirko Vucinic goal, marked Roma's fifth consecutive success in Italy's top flight.

The outcome lifted the Giallorossi to 10th in the standings, seven points behind fourth-place AC Milan, who hold the last Champions League qualifying spot. Luciano Spalletti's men go into this weekend's encounter inspired by their midweek 2-0 win over Bologna, which saw them qualify for the quarter finals of the Coppa Italia.

Vucinic proved yet again the hero striking twice on the night and the Montenegrin forward has no intention to slow down. "I hope I can continue my scoring form," admitted Vucinic. "It has been a good week for me and I hope I can cap it all off by scoring in Catania."

Oppponents Catania are desperate to earn points at the Massimino as their poor form on the road continues. The Elefanti have only mustered three points in eight away games and are still searching for their first win on the road.

Last weekend's 2-0 defeat at Fiorentina which followed their 1-0 loss at AC Milan, saw Catania drop to 12th in the standings. Catania boss Walter Zenga knows it's imperative his side start to get positive results.

"We are ten points from the relegation zone and need to work on increasing this gap. We have 22 points and we cannot slow down."

Despite their rival's recent struggles, Roma will not take Catania lightly and for good reason. Catania held Roma to a 1-1 draw last season and the Islanders have won six of their eight encounters in Sicily this year while only losing once, against Udinese in October.

"It's going to be a difficult game for us," admitted Vucinic."They will be desperate to bounce back from two consecutive defeats. Catania have always done well at home and the Massimino stadium is their strongest weapon this campaign."

Roma will be without goalkeeper Alexander Doni who is still struggling with a muscular problem and will be replaced by Artur. The good news for Spalletti is that Italian midfielder Matteo Brighi returns to play having missed last weekend's game through suspension.
