Roma and Marseille were punished for incidents during Champions League meetings with Chelsea and Liverfekkin'wankscum, respectively. In Roma's case Uefa's disciplinary body handed out a €20,000 (£17,855) fine after fans lit flares and blocked public passageways during their 3–1 home win against Chelsea on November 4. Marseille were given a €10,000 (£8,927) fine after supporters threw objects on to the pitch, including a cigarette lighter which struck Liverfekkin'wankscum's Steven Gerrard, during their 1–0 defeat at Anfield on November 26.

I really don't get this. We get fined €20,000 for "lighting flares" and "blocking public passageways", yet Marseille only get a €10,000 fine for "throwing objects on to the pitch including a cigarette lighter which struck Liverfekkin'wankscum's Steven Gerrfuckcuntwanker"? Which seems worse to you...??

giova, i share your feelings about america, and i use the term broadly to encompass both canada and the states as they are both very similar, even though i am canadian first and foremost. the lifestyle in europe is so much better to me, although i do acknowledge that some things, the americans have better. but those are not the most important things to me. i suspect the socialism in italy will drive you mad, but once you no longer have to work to make an impact, you will be fine.

as to appreciating the city you live in, both rome and paris can be cold cities if you are poor. if you have a bit of money, however, they have everything to offer. i haven't had time to be bored here in paris yet.


jamoldo, i haven't had a bottle of bordeaux i didn't like yet. it's my staple wine. your bottle doesn't ring a bell, though, sorry.

Not too sure what you meant by "no culture". You can say the "American culture" is a mix of many cultures depending on where you live. A person's culture is based on which European background you are from in NY. You grow up in this type of environment being exposed to many other cultures, foods, etc. Like me, for example. I'm very open to many things (quote me maro and insert a dirty joke) like Greek food but this is how it is living in a big city. Immigrants are all around you. First-generation Americans like myself still have the values that were brought from overseas by parents. Reason as to why people like Maro and Ita are "cultural" and a vested interest in the arts is because....well, it is what you guys did through college and what some do for a living. Not sure if being a wine connoisseur counts as being cultural.

Who takes an emphasis on the arts anyway?? Culture, arts, etc.??? These hippies from the midwest who moved to NY to be on Broadway to work at Starbucks??? Completely irrelevant to society in my opinion. What am I going to get out of a naked woman with porcelain boobs aside from a few laughs and a semi?? Let's be serious. Ia, you have assimilated whether you like it or not. You watch NFL, eat at fancy restaurants, work like a maniac, pay taxes and vote. You are a true American and know that you wouldn't have it better anywhere else. You can't possibly sit there and tell me in your 20+ years or so in this country you have never eaten BK or McDonald's or a Philly Cheesesteak for that matter?? If you say no, it is a lie. EVERYONE has eaten in at least one of these places.


Granted, we do eat like shit but there are also fast food places in Italy too. I think we fail to analyze the statistics properly and Americans needed a stereotype. This only came about a few years ago, under a decade I would say when a study showed that 30% of Americans are OVER WEIGHT. This is interesting because let's answer the question: who is classified as an American?? Many people with diabetes here in the States are mainly from Europe and Asia. There's a higher incidence of diabetes in the Mediterranean, about ten-fold as compared to the US. I don't believe it is hereditary (although a family history is signifcant) but those with diabetes are almost ALWAYS accompanied by obesity or an increase in body mass index/waist size. I blame this on diet. We all know Europeans will not eat at the 5 start Italian restaurants like Olive Garden so I can't really say it is the McDonald's. Not to sound racist here but when African Americans have diabetes and asked what their diet is, the usual response is " yea you know, burgers, fried chicken, all that fast food stuff"/ It is funny that Americans have this stereotype of being fat yet many are those from overseas which is my point. I wouldn't be bragging about the Italian diet is what I'm saying.

Dino, I think Indians have the highest percentage cases of diabetes. You should listen to my family, they talk about it like the weather. I am dead serious. Except in Tamil, they call it "sugar" Typical conversation below.

Person 1: the weather has been hot lately, hasn't it?
Person 2: yes, there has been no rain, god knows what that will do to food prices. Plus I cannot even sleep at night.
Person 1: And the government mandated power cuts don't help either, what are we to do?
Person 2: Yes its all of these big companies and MNCs getting electricity concessions, and we suffer.
Person 1: So how's your sugar (diabetes) lately?
Person 2: Well I'm borderline, not a confirmed case yet, but I watch my diet (right...) and excersise (a 30 minute walk at best)
Person 1: Better than me, I've been on insulin and (insert 10 other medications here) for years, the doctor's given me something new. But yes, excersise and watching your diet is very important (note he/she does not mention whether he/she does anything).
Person 2: I've been so impolite, I have not even offered you some tea. Servant! Come get our guest some tea and sweets (some kind of concotion with melted butter and loads og sugar).
Person 1: Thank you. Oh and servant, I'll take extra sugar in my tea please.
