Domenech-Materazzi,frecciatina: "Ora corro più io"

PARIGI (Francia) - Ancora scintille tra il ct della Francia, Raymond Domenech, e il difensore azzurro Marco Materazzi, infortunatosi durante l'ultima gara della Nazionale che lo terrà fuori per circa 3mesi. Il tecnico, sospeso per l'incontro Italia-Francia del prossimo 8 settembre per via delle sue dichiarazioni contro l'Italia rilasciate in un'intervista al quotidiano 'Le Parisien', ha ironizzato sulla possibilità di incontrare in tribuna il difensore italiano: "In questo momento io corro più veloce di lui. Agli italiani manca qualche giocatore, anche a noi. In generale, non mi occupo della squadra avversaria. Ognuno farà al meglio con quello che ha a disposizione. Sono i rischi della competizione, questo non mi riguarda".
Intanto la commissione d'appello dell'Uefa ha reso noto che esaminerà mercoledì 5 settembre alle 13 a Nyon il ricorso presentato dal ct della Francia.

Azzurri: Don calls in Panucci

Christian Panucci and Cristiano Lucarelli have been given an Azzurri recall for the Euro 2008 games against France and Ukraine.

The Roma defender has not received a call to the Italy squad since a 2-1 win over Bulgaria on June 22, 2004, but was brought back after Alessandro Nesta’s retirement and injuries to Marco Materazzi and Fabio Cannavaro.

Although Cannavaro is in the squad, he is not 100 per cent fit after sustaining an ankle injury in training with Real Madrid.

Luca Toni is also struggling to recover from a muscular strain, but is in the side for these two crunch matches.

So Shakhtar Donetsk centre-forward Lucarelli is drafted in by Coach Roberto Donadoni, having previously earned just two caps in friendly games.

Pasquale Foggia receives his first senior Italy call after his sublime performance for Cagliari against Juventus this afternoon.

Italy face Group B leaders France at San Siro on September 8 and play Ukraine away on September 12. It will be a homecoming for Lucarelli, who now plies his trade in the Ukrainian League.

How many goals does Rosina have to score to make that team?? Certainly experience is needed vs France and I don't see Aquilani getting any time. We're calling up the big boys to play. Any predictions???

obviously the don has missed the palermo games as miccoli has been spectacular in the first two games, good preseason (from highlights i've seen) and, not to mention, excellent during this past season at benfica. i think foggia is going to be a great little player but i dont think he has quite earned his spot yet and not nearly as dominant as fabrizio has been recently. in fact, i think montolivo or rosina would be more deserving at this point (and rosina can play wide so would be a legitimate option over foggia). in the end, it probably means very little for this game cause niether is likely going to see any playing time.

Christian Panucci has expressed his pride at earning a recall to the Italian national squad. The veteran defender has been called up by the Azzurri for the first time in three years for the Euro 2008 qualifiers against France and Ukraine. Italy coach Roberto Donadoni has plumped for Panucci due to an injury to Marco Materazzi and the Roma stopper is happy to be back.

"For me, this call is like a personal revenge," Panucci told the Italian press. "Coming back here gives me a big pride. "I'm ready to give any help that is asked of me. I'm completely at the coach's disposal. "I don't have a grudge against anyone, and I don't regret what I've said or I've done in the past."

Meanwhile, Donadoni is expecting an improved showing from his players following the recent friendly defeat in Hungary. "Certainly France are the strongest opponents in our group, but I expect a step forward in our fitness, and game situation, in comparison to the friendly we played with Hungary two weeks ago."

Donadoni is sweating on the fitness of Luca Toni, with the Bayern Munich striker recovering from a muscular problem. "We will see how his fitness will be and then we will decide," added Donadoni. "Anyway, he will remain with us. If he won't play on Saturday, he could be fit for the match with Ukraine."
