Is this article telling us something that we did not know? Or, is it a shock in reality that some of us around here still refuse to acknowledge? My God how far we have fallen. I remember the broadcaster on Rai during our final match against Catania saying after the first half with Roma winning 1-0 and Inter being held by Parma: "a questo momento, la Roma è Campione d'Italia..." The shame of it is that I could tolerate a down season if we would have won more this decade. I hate the whole would have, could have, should have shit. But in my opinion, we should have won at least 2 more scudetti after 2001. I blame both the players and coaches for not having the mental toughness to win. I don't think I need to cite the games that we should have easily won or the reasons we did not win more. Or, those 13 draws in the year after the scudetto. We had the team and we had the talent to win more. We failed.

Capello "Io, la Roma e la mentalità vincente"

Il tecnico della nazionale inglese torna sulla sua esperienza romana, analizzandone gioie e difficoltà: "Roma? Un posto dove si vive divinamente ma dove la mentalità vincente quasi non esisteva. E poi - ha detto capello - dopo ogni vittoria, ci si adagiava e questo è stato l'aspetto più importante su cui lavorare. C'era una mentalità da costruire, così come l'organizzazione, Ho fatto un lavoro molto profondo che diede buonissimi risultati"

So what's Don Fabio saying? He brought a winning mentality to Roma that prior to his arrival did not exist. Is he juxtaposing his tenure at Roma to that of Spalletti? Well, he won 1 scudetto. Ok, great. But why not more when he had the team to do it? But did we really have a winning mentality? Any team can win 1 scudetto. If you win alot of games does that mean a winning mentality exists? I personally do not believe we have such a mentality under Spalletti. Spalletti himself acknowledges this fact but not before his team was engulfed in a crisis. He has been a successful coach, he turned bad into good since his arrival, but he has won nothing. I do not balme him totally because of the ownership that has plagued him since the beginning. I personally think he gets more out of less than any coach in the world. Capello had some big time players and Franco Sensi was happy to spend for Fabio. Spalletti does not have such an advantage. Capello should have won more trophies and did better in the CL. Spalletti has done better in the CL but has not won a scudetto.

You don't think Menez will come good with a bit of time and confidence? For me, the biggest problem was just that there was no allowance made for what should have been the basic assumption that Totti would be missing for the first month or two of the season and that we needed properly a way of playing without him. We have too many second forwards or trequartisti at the moment so that we can't even really play two up top should we want to.

I will be interested to see if Riise comes good. He's not a player I've ever been desperately impressed by - though I don't have quite the passionate hatred for him of our dear Edzo. Still, I think he was bought because he's supposed to have a good engine, getting up and down and up and down that flank. A number of comments were made about him to that sort of effect when he arrived - Panucci, for instance, described him as a physical beast. At the moment I just think he's playing pretty poorly and has been for a fair while. If he can get a little bit of confidence, he may actually bring the right kind of energy and work-rate to that flank. At the moment he just looks like he's playing a bit scared, so he's not really offering anything going forward. With confidence I suspect he may come good, and he's also the kind of player who will benefit hugely from having Totti and Pizza on the pitch because he can do his running off them. We shall see, but I could see the logic to that acquisition (as well as the experience thing, of course).

Loria, well, he couldn't have started worse, clearly, but if he gets a chance in a more settled side and in more even match-ups (against Budan, say, or Bianchi, rather than against Di Natale), then he may show us he's got a bit more to offer.

I don't know, Avvocato. For me, Capello was always very good at building a hard-nosed pragmatic squad. Tactically, I never thought he was outstandingly clever, which was one of the reasons he never did so well in Europe, and I also think he relied so heavily on a small core of players that they were always tired when the knock-out rounds in Europe came round. He was very good at having his sides start the season exceptionally well, but they then tended to fall away for bits in February, for instance, when injuries and fatigue seemed to catch up with them. I would certainly say, though, that Capello brought a bit of hard-nosed discipline to the passion of Rome. I suspect Spags is trying something similar in his own way - the reason he doesn't rant and rave as Carlo would like is because he wants the boys to play with clear heads. He knows that passion comes all too easily to some of them; getting them to play with maturity and composure is the real ask. He also wants players who can lead rather than need to be led.

Sheildyyy.. last night we decided to go out for a bit.. we went to the Irish Scholar... what a fantatsic place.. anyways... main point being.. we randomly started talking to two gentlemen.. one studying top be a docter from palermo.. another was a physio.. working at trigoria! Holy crap.. what dumb luck.. he was legit.. shopwed me the card and all that, and we talked so much about roma... DUMB luck.. he told me theyàre leaving Torino at around midnight.. ok gotta bounceee.... fill u boys in a couple of hrs

Il capitano della Roma non sarà convocato per la partita di domani con la Juventus. Oggi aveva svolto solo parte dell'allenamento, poi aveva abbandonato il campo. Totti è ancora alle prese con l'infiammazione al tendine rotuleo del ginocchio operato.
