but at the same time, we all finally realize how a player of his caliber can lift his whole team. totti is truly a magnificent player, but i never imagined his absence would cause so many problems at roma. it just enhances the idea of how vital he is to the team.

I think there are more problems at Roma than just Totti's absence (e.g. injuries to other players forcing a team to play without any real continuity to its line up). That, however, was not why I objected to the article. To put it simply, I don't think that article has any real reason to have been written in the first place. Nothing new or imporant was said and I have trouble believing that Mike Anderson received payment for such shit. Let's look at what the piece actually tells us:
1) Roma have started poorly and have largely been without Totti
2) Roma was successful last year with and without Totti
3) currently without Totti, Roma has a couple of options
a) play solid defence and keep goals out of the net
b) attack and score more goals than the opposing team
4) Roma has not done either of these two things and needs to play harder to win
5) it would be good to play hard and not lose to Inter

In summation "Playing attractive football is a goal that all teams ought to strive to attain, but sometimes it is a matter of getting the wins before attempting to do that in style. The Giallorossi need to prove they can win without their injury-prone captain otherwise their greatest player could, paradoxically, prove to be their greatest burden." ???

The body of Anderson's piece was full of points so simple that the really need not be written as nothing could be learned from them. While there might be some truth to his last two sentences he did nothing to successfully work toward such a conclusion. Further, I doubt that many of us would say that Roma have been attempting to "win in style" so far this year. We have lacked a great deal of our fluidity and have won games (when we've won, that is) through hard work and luck.
