Il francese è stato squalificato per la doppia ammonizione e un pesante insulto nei confronti dell'arbitro durante la gara col Siena. Un turno anche a Panucci come ad Accardi, Dessena, Paolucci, Papastathopoulos, Rossi, Scardina, Sissoko, Cigarini e Zambrotta

MILANO, 14 ottobre 2008 - Tre giornate di squalifica per il difensore della Roma, Philippe Mexes, poi altri 10 giocatori fermati per un turno. Sono le decisioni del giudice sportivo, Gianpaolo Tosel, in merito alle gare della sesta giornata di campionato. Mexes era stato espulso a Siena per doppia ammonizione. Tosel lo ha squalificato per "comportamento scorretto nei confronti di un avversario e per proteste nei confronti degli ufficiali di gara". Nello specifico "per avere, al 20' del secondo tempo, all'atto dell'espulsione, rivolto all'arbitro un pesante insulto".

ANCHE PANUCCI - Difesa a pezzi quella romanista, perché per una giornata è stato fermato anche Christian Panucci, che salterà dunque il big-match di domenica con l'Inter. Questi gli altri giocatori squalificati per 90'. Si tratta di Accardi e Dessena (Sampdoria), Paolucci (Catania), Papastathopoulos e Rossi (Genoa), Scardina (Chievo), Sissoko (Juventus), Cigarini (Atalanta), Zambrotta (Milan).

Apparently the additional two game suspension is for what Mexes said to the ref after he received his second yellow. For cursing and being abusive toward De Marco, "comportamento scorretto nei confronti di un avversario e per proteste nei confronti degli ufficiali di gara." Its impossible to know what he said for certain but since when is shouting a few swearwords toward the officials in the heat of the moment deemded worthy of two further games suspension? If that was the case Marco Materazzi would never play again. This seems very harsh to say the least. Thats the Inter, Udinese (a) and Samp games he's out for.

I'm a realist and therefore more than just a little bit of a cynic. I think we can still have a reasonable season provided we all accept that means just what it suggests...but it will indeed be a season, I fear, with Totti only firing on 5 of his 6 cylinders at best when he plays.

I said when I read the birthday statements by both our gallant Capitan' and his lovely wife about his playing until 37 that I'd be very surprised if he manages to get past 33...and I might add it gives me no pleasure to say so! He has a certain charisma in front of the tv camera and Italian women tend to like his looks. He should consider making the most of that given he already makes commercials way above the usual footballers' standards and our Magica Roma should sooner rather than later start to consider a genuine replacement for him though he still has a decent contribution to make...

Dopo le smentite del presunto interessamento della Roma verso il giocatore da parte del direttore sportivo del West Ham, Gianluca Nani, arrivano le conferme che l'operazione può decollare dalla viva voce del procuratore del giocatore svizzero, Alessandro Beltrami, il quale ai microfoni de Laromasiamonoi.it conferma l'indiscrezione: "La Roma ha fatto un sondaggio per Behrami – dichiara l'agente del giocatore – e al contrario di quello che hanno detto in queste ore, ovvero che la Roma non avrebbe liquidità per portare avanti l'operazione, a me è stato riferito dalla società giallorossa che questo non sarebbe assolutamente un problema". Il manager di Behrami è attualmente in Brasile per lavoro, e solo nei prossimi giorni parlerà direttamente con la dirigenza della Roma: "Sono in Brasile per motivi di lavoro e non posso incontrarmi con i vertici giallorossi. Senz'altro ci sarà un incontro nei prossimi giorni con la Roma per valutare attentamente il da farsi. Ripeto, la Roma mi ha dato la sua disponibilità e ha mostrato interesse per portare avanti l'operazione. Ma siamo appena all'inizio", conclude Beltrami.

Francesco Totti is hoping to face Inter on Sunday. Mike Anderson looks at whether their best player is also their Achilles heel

Roma have had a terrible start to the season. After a decent performance in the Italian Super Cup against Inter they have looked like a fraction of the team that finished second last term. This is an outfit that is lacking inspiration, a side that misses its captain and leader – Francesco Totti.

The Roma of last season performed adequately without Totti, but this was a team that had already started the campaign well and were high on confidence. Er Pupone gives his beloved Giallorossi something special, it is his influence that takes them from being a very good side to Scudetto contenders.

Over the last few years Roma have been admired for the way they play football, their free-flowing attacking style has gained them admirers from far beyond the boundaries of the Eternal City. Totti has been the focal point of that style. The fantasista inspires them, but without him the team lacks invention and creativity.

The problem is what do the Giallorossi do without him? One option would have been to try and grind out results by relying on the defence, but due to their alarming injury and disciplinary problems they have been leaking goals in a most uncharacteristic manner.

The next logical course of action would be to adopt the ‘Galactico Era’ Real Madrid approach where if you score five goals then we’ll score six. Unfortunately, Roma have only netted eight goals and conceded the same amount in six games this season which doesn’t make that an option either.

La Magica have to start winning games by determination, they need to adopt the kind of battling spirit usually seen at clubs who are struggling at the foot of the table. If they can grind out a favourable result against Inter – anything but a loss – then they can use it as a way to get their season back on track.

Playing attractive football is a goal that all teams ought to strive to attain, but sometimes it is a matter of getting the wins before attempting to do that in style. The Giallorossi need to prove they can win without their injury-prone captain otherwise their greatest player could, paradoxically, prove to be their greatest burden.
