Ronaldinho snubbed 'gigantic offer' from Manchester City to earn less at Milan

AS Ronaldinho prepares to play Portsmouth in the UEFA Cup, AC Milan vice president Adriano Galliani revealed the Brazilian would have earned more had he accepted Manchester City's offer during the summer.

Barcelona preferred to sell Ronaldinho to City and Galliani said: 'We were chasing Ronaldinho but had to face the offer from Manchester City.

'At one stage everything seemed to have fallen through because Barcelona wanted to send him to England.

'Ronaldinho had a gigantic five-year contract offer from City. Our three-year offer was a lot less than the one proposed by City but it became only a little lower because of what Ronaldinho gave up on.

'In this respect he chose a road that is rarely travelled. He came here because he wants to be number one again.'

AC Milan beat Jose Mourinho's Inter two weeks ago with Ronaldinho scoring the winner.

Galliani added: 'Ronaldinho is slim and in great form. He plays the type of football we want. Great conductors perform in great opera halls and Ronaldinho is happy in Milan.'

Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp joked: 'I bet Milan have always wanted to play at Fratton Park. Wait till they see the dressing room!'

Milan are seeking Söder

Milan are being linked with Swedish young gun Robin Söder, who played for IFK Goteborg against Atalanta last night. The Rossoneri are looking to find a new generation of stars to join the likes of Alexandre Pato and Alberto Paloschi in building a bright future for the club.

And one name that is reportedly on the radar is that of 17-year-old Swede Söder, who is already in his nation's Under-21 squad. Söder played for IFK Goteborg against Atalanta last night and Milan scouts were in attendance.

forget about moutinho, we should focus on integrating gourcuff into the first team. this kid is rocking for bordeaux and for france, there has to be a way to fit him into the squad.

It was not Carlo's fault completely but he certainly gets some of the blame. The player himself looked short on confidence when given the chance and never had any consistency as a result....if you ask me, alot of it has to do with players not being mentally strong enough to play with a massive club like Milan and instead shine for lesser teams only.....kind of like Gila, except Gila was given alot more chances

I'm all for giving him a new chance, but it is out of our control thanks to the BF's incompetence, so I think we should pretty much forget about him now....there are certainly plenty of regrets on this matter

guys, ive never thought of this before, but pirlo has 2 years remaining on his contract, more like 1.5 years left now. but depending on how the team does until pirlo comes back, and so far we have proven that we can survive without him, pirlo's days in a milan jersey could be numbered.

his contract was a rumored issue over the summer, and the fact that the team will have to prove that we can survive without him until christmas is something im sure the directors will take notice of. also is the factor of pirlo's poor form over the past year not just for us but for the azzuri as well. i wonder if pirlo's career is winding down.

Comment: Gourcuff's Stock Rising
On-loan Bordeaux midfielder Yoann Gourcuff is impressing domestically and on the international front, raising his profile whilst inevitably increasing his transfer value.

Milan look set to benefit from the French starlet considered 'the new The Bald Algerian'. One way or another, the Rossonero outfit will be grateful to the young Frenchman, who's set to return to Milan if his loan period demonstrates that he's mature and experienced enough to play for the Milan giants.

If Galliani and co decide against the reacquisition of the midfielder, though, his increased value will certainly benefit the club financially when his transfer fee comes through. Gourcuff won acclaim for his stunning 35-yard goal at the weekend against Romania, helping to tie matters up at 2-2.

International team-mate Thierry Henry believes that the player has what it takes to become an international star and this will be music to Rossoneri ears. Gourcuff has made an impressive start to his year-long loan at Bordeaux, with the team comfortably placed in fifth position in Ligue 1 and on a four-match unbeaten run.

Life in Bordeaux seems to have breathed new life into the 22-year-old playmaker, just as it ignited the career of The Bald Algerian 16 years ago. When Milan bought the player a few years ago they paid 4 million euros for him, but his value was recently estimated at 15 million euros and counting.

Milan stand to be rewarded for good youth scouting - perhaps three or four fold - if they decide to let the young French prodigy go. If not, they will benefit from the influence of a naturally gifted star.
