I watched the Udinese v Dortmund game and Pepe was they're best forward, more so than Di Natale or Quags, but still, I can't understand how Lippi can call him ahead of Cassano. In fact, I think it would be fair to say that Cassano has been in better form so far this season than any from Pepe, Rossi, or even Luca Toni. His absence is perplexing and, like the Lippi of old, it must be down to personal reasons. Does anyone know what's the reaction like in Italy to Cassano not being in the squad?

Italy need to win away to Bulgaria and I'm hoping they do. Three points for them would be good for us.

Marcello Lippi may have to make do without Gigi Buffon and Mauro Camoranesi for Italy's upcoming World Cup 2010 qualifiers. The Azzurri will be looking to maintain their 100 per cent record on the road to South Africa as they face Bulgaria and Montenegro.

Buffon reported a recurrence of shoulder pain after Juventus' defeat against Palermo yesterday. The Bianconeri No 1 has been struggling with the injury for weeks and may need some time to rest the troubled area.

Meanwhile, Juve winger Mauro Camoranesi has complained of a strain in his right thigh. Both men saw Azzurri medical staff this afternoon and a decision will be made shortly over their fitness.

Italy travel to Bulgaria on Saturday before hosting Montenegro in mid-week.

Vucinic gets the green light

Mirko Vucinic will be ready to face Italy with Montenegro next Wednesday after encouraging test results on his injured knee. The Roma hitman had been a doubt due to his knee problem, but he has been given the green light after a thorough examination at Villa Stuart. The Giallorossi have given Vucinic the go-ahead to join the rest of the Montenegro squad as they prepare for the Lecce clash.

Vucinic is still a hero at Via Del Mare after his five-year spell at the club, including a prolific 2004-05 campaign when he netted 19 goals in 29 games. Montenegro, who also have Fiorentina starlet Stevan Jovetic in their ranks, managed a fighting 2-2 draw with Bulgaria and a tight stalemate with the Republic of Ireland in their opening qualifiers.
