Palermo want Nilmar in January

Serie A outfit Palermo will make a fresh bid for Brazilian Nilmar, pictured in 2005, in the January transfer window, according to their president Maurizio Zamparini. Palermo lost another Brazilian forward Amauri to Juventus last month but failed in an attempt to sign Nilmar from Brazilians Internacional.

"I want Nilmar to be already a Palermo player in January," said Zamparini from a press conference in Palermo. "One of our men is still in Brazil and I'm ready to pay half his transfer fee right now to ensure we have him for the second half of the championship."

Palermo signed Croatia striker Igor Budan from Parma in the summer but he has injury problems.

And Zamparini believes that adding former Lyon forward Nilmar to his ranks would allow his team to challenge for the Champions League.

"Palermo's aim is the UEFA Cup but I wanted Nilmar because that's not enough for me, I want to be in the Champions League," he added.

Palermo are poised to launch a fresh bid for Brazilian striker Nilmar.

The Serie A outfit failed in their attempts to land the 24-year-old Internacional forward in the summer.

However, president Maurizio Zamparini has revealed the club are readying a revised offer as they look to secure his services in January's transfer window.

"I want Nilmar to be already a Palermo player in January," said Zamparini.

"One of our men is still in Brazil and I'm ready to pay half his transfer fee right now to ensure we have him for the second half of the championship."

He added: "Palermo's aim is the Uefa Cup but I wanted Nilmar because that's not enough for me, I want to be in the UEFA Champions League."

Nilmar Close To Palermo Switch

Reports in Italy suggest that Brazilian striker Nilmar Honorato da Silva may be close to a move which would bring him to Palermo in January.

Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini is happy with how things are going at the club, but he had promised fans that a new striker would arrive in January.

A few months ago it was reported that the president had sent sporting director Walter Sabatini to Internacional on official business, in order to negotiate for the 24-year-old Brazilian.

Nothing had come of those rumours, but now it looks like a deal may soon be agreed upon. The club are looking for a young attacker to add to the squad, and Nilmar seems to fit the bill.

The player had a short spell in France with Lyon a few years ago, but it was unsuccessful and he returned to Brazil. Now he seems to be willing to return to Europe to give it a second chance, and Sicily may be the point of arrival for the young striker.
