The Waterboy: «I want Juve to have the killer instinct»
«Yes, I scored one of my best-ever goals on Wednesday and it was a good win, in a vital match for us, the turning point of the season. We've said it many times: we want to complete the process we started two years ago, a process that must end with us qualifying for the Champions League». Alessandro The Waterboy began his press conference speaking about the match against Artmedia, where he was indisputably one of the stars and not just for his masterpiece of a goal.
The Captain hit on many subjects during his meeting with the journalists.
Juve's potential. «I don't want to speak too soon. Due to our potential and as a Club, we can't be considered a team that was in Serie B two years ago. Last year we'd just been promoted, on paper, but in truth we weren't that kind of team. We aim for the top, with no rush, knowing we have a first-level team»
Juve's signings. «I'm satisfied with them. Excellent players have joined us, our potential has increased and we can aim for the top. I don't play to make a good impression with a third or second placing. I don't like to think like that. Only first place exists for me. We've strengthened the squad and so have the other teams too. Only by playing will we be able to tell who's done better. There had been persistent rumours about Ronaldinho joining AC Milan, Inter Milan have a unique financial potential, Roma have spent little but wisely; the clubs' policies haven't really changed compared to recent years. In any case I believe the gap between Inter Milan and the other teams has decreased»
The Berlusconi Trophy. «I don't remember there ever being any real friendlies against AC Milan or Inter Milan. The Berlusconi itself has always been considered one of the most important games because in past years Juve and AC Milan almost never played the qualifiers and this was considered as the first real test of the season for the two teams. Now, even if we're playing the qualifiers, it maintains that importance»
Juve's strong point and where they can improve. «The thing I like the most is the determination and character that wearing this shirt and working in this environment give you. We kept that spirit despite changing managers in recent years, years which have been different than before. This is a happy confirmation for us and most of all a crucial element to aim for the top. We can improve our killer instinct that is still lacking a little bit. We're at the beginning and it's fine for now, but we have to try and bring it out as soon.

Celebration in Villar Perosa attracts many
Before returning to Europe on Tuesday in Bratislava for the qualifier and then straight into the Champions League proper, everyone at Juventus granted themselves a day of celebration, basking in the fans' enthusiasm. And no one at all was missing at the traditional Villar Perosa exhibition match.
John Elkann, Franzo Grande Stevens, all the Club's top brass (Giovanni Cobolli Gigli, Jean Claude Blanc, Alessio Secco, Ciro Ferrara) and the first team were all there. But most of all, 5 thousand fans travelled to the Val Chisone, the area where the Agnellis hail from, to cheer their beloved team and to take part in the celebrations. On the pitch, the first team won by 8-0 (with 6 Pasquato goals and two by Amauri), but this afternoon it wasn't about that: everyone was truly a winner today.
Several protagonists of the day spoke to Juventus Channel, starting from John Elkann, the gracious host, who was cheered by the fans, exactly like they used to cheer his grandfather, Gianni Agnelli, the Avvocato.
John Elkann: «It’s truly a splendid day, this is Juventus' traditional celebration and it's nice to all be here together. It pleases me to see so many young players on the pitch; this is a clear sign that the Club's policy, i.e. to help them grow by giving them a chance, is the right one».
Giovanni Cobolli Gigli: «Villar Perosa is an historic town for all Juventus. I was very happy that John Elkann chose to come and be close with us, surrounded by all these beautiful people. The game? We had fun watching it. The youngsters gave everything, but the old guard were no slouches either».
Blanc: «Seeing all these people is an energy boost for the start of our season. The things that happened in the last two years have made people love Juventus even more. Our team is made up of 14 million people and it is for them too that we keep working, remaining humble and eager to do well. Here in Villar Perosa we've understood even more how tradition is important and how to do big things you need to build solid roots first».
Alessio Secco: «This exhibition in Villar Perosa is as old as Juve itself, it's nice to come here in this valley that the Avvocato Agnelli loved so much. We saw a lot of interesting youngsters playing today, they've been able to win over the Manager's trust and have taken the chance given to them always behaving impeccably both on and off the pitch, perfectly in-keeping with the 'Juve style'. Some of them, including Pasquato, will go on loan to gather experience».
Ciro Ferrara: «It's a pleasure for the Youth Academy to give so many players to the first team. Juventus' mentality involves buying big stars while also giving the boys who deserve it a chance to get into the first team. We must thank Claudio Ranieri for this, as he's giving the boys the possibility to train and play next to some great players. Maddaloni? He has experience with young players and at other clubs, he has everything he needs to work well and replace a coach such as Chiarenza, who did really well here. We count on winning as much as we did with him».

Ahmed, Elkann and Stevens being cheered? Presumably this would have been after the game...it's not so long ago the fans directed just the opposite towards those two over the decisions to keep Secco and Ranieri!
Amongst today's comments, the interesting ones for me concern the youth squad...I am so sick of all the top Italian clubs allowing their primavere to slip through their fingers to the smaller sides, or worse, into the obscurity of the lower divisions over the altar of expensive and often over-rated imports. What really annoys me is seeing a club later being obliged to buy back at an inflated price, one of their own former youth players! Senseless, and for Juventus' sake I'd like to see Ferrara's opinion have some influence though I doubt it as he is on his own, aside from Ranieri who is on borrowed time...

This isn't news. Newly promoted teams don't win right out of Serie A. Just look at AC Milan when they were relegated in the 80's. They didn't win anything until 6 years later. Plus, look at all these newly promoted teams like Napoli. They are building but the process is slow. I'll agree with the management on this one. Becoming a powerhouse coming straight out of Serie B is just an imagination. They are getting there though, slowly. The issue lies where people are looking back and comparing the current team to a team of the past. Milan never compared themselves to their greatest team of all time in the early 90's and they've done just fine recently, minus being a part of the Calciopoli and stuff. I believe this Juve team will achieve better results and play better than the past Cabbageman team.

Just in order to clarify an important point, I wasn't censuring the management, I was actually trying to analyse the situation as I personally see it and nothing more. Also after reading what you wrote I'd like to stress on one thing I mentioned in my previous post, I'm almost certain that the fans' mentality has vastly mutated.
