I think everything points to a CB purchase now.... removing 2 CBs (as ineffective as they may be) in a time where we actually are short of fit CBs is an indication of a CB on the way....and Ivanovic's transfer to Milan could be official in the next day or so from what I gather...lets hope we seal the deal as he's definitely worth getting

Our roster is too big still, assuming we get a defender we'll 29 players!

According to our "official" classification of players on our site, we have 3 GK, 11 DEF(assuming a signing), 7 MID, 8 ATT....ideally I'd like our squad to be about 25-26 players max....Emerson, Favalli and Brocchi have no place......I dont think we need those 2 cunts in midfield, I'd like us to give Crdacio some playing time at least....I'll also consider loaning out Viudez to a Serie A team for a year or so, that or Paloschi but I'd prefer seeing Viudez tested in a loan move....there's question marks over Boriello, Antonini

Adriano Galliani insists AC Milan will not rush into a decision after failing to sign Branislav Ivanovic. The Italian giants had been hoping to persuade Chelsea to part with Ivanovic, who only moved to Stamford Bridge in January. Though the Serbian defender has yet to make a first-team appearance for the Blues, his agent says the Premiershit club consider him to be 'indispensable'.

Milan had been keen to bring in a new defender, but vice-president Galliani has stated the club will not fall back on a second choice after missing out on Ivanovic.

"I want to make it very clear that Milan will not be rushed into making any decisions by anybody," Galliani told Gazzetta dello Sport. "We will either find the defender we need or we will stay as we are.

"Alessandro Nesta and Kakha Kaladze are available and we can count on Paolo Maldini, Daniele Bonera and Giuseppe Favalli, not to forget Massimo Ambrosini. There's never any point in making quick decisions, especially because we have players who can cover."


I like the way The BF lists Favalli, a left-back, and Ambrosini, a defensive-midfielder, as options to cover for the centre of defence. Nesta has his injury troubles and Maldini is 58 now, leaving only Kaladze and Bonera as your remaining centre-half's. Thats a slight cause for concern if you ask me. Surely Milan need a new defender.

In all fairness Favalli gets about half of his playing time as CB so technically he's right as useless as Favalinho is....had there not been the injury situation with Nesta, and if Kaladze was to play like a man then I think we might've gotten away without a CB for a year, but now its quite pathetic really...I think the BF (rightfully) stopped the interest in Ivanovic as he's not the type to get bullied in the market, whether we can get a CB now remains to be seen as it only seems we have a couple of millions to spend

Milan have lost out on Branislav Ivanovic, so turn their attention towards Barcelona's Rafael Marquez. The Mexican international defender has been linked with them for many years, although no firm bid was ever tabled. Marquez has the versatility to suit the Rossoneri's requirements, as he can play at centre-back, right-back or defensive midfielder. The 29-year-old has been in Europe since 1999, playing for Monaco and then Barcelona in 2003.

Carlo Ancelotti has urged the club to buy a new defender before the transfer window closes, as their performances in pre-season have been disastrous. Alessandro Nesta is struggling with a long-term back injury, while Dario Simic, Digao, Marcos Cafu and Serginho have left San Siro. It is also reported that Milan wish to wait until the end of next week to make a decision, as they hope the talks with Chelsea for Ivanovic can be revived. The deal fell through when Chelsea refused to give the Serie A side an option to make the loan move permanent at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, transfer guru Adriano Galliani has teased rivals Inter and the fact they are in two different competitions this term. “You ask me if I would give up the Scudetto in exchange for winning the UEFA Cup in Istanbul after having knocked Inter out in the quarter-finals?â€
