Menez is the type of player I would love to be purchased after Malouda and Baptista for instance....because at least with those two you have proven commodities...purchasing Menez is far too risky for a club that can ill afford to miss on an 10m+ player.

Guys, it would seem that by the week end we could have Baptista but just as I've been thinking, all the signs point to our having to buy him. Mediaset tells us today that our club has offered €9 mil with a balance of 2 mil payable over three years, and Madrid's response is expected by Thursday or Friday.


Tuna, Benayoun to Roma won't happen...he has said he doesn't want to play for us and I'm glad because his style is much more suited to la merdarossa where he is now, which should answer Bagg and Ahmed. Be grateful, we can do better! Il Mister Spalletti is still hoping to pry Malouda out from under Big Phil...which won't be easy!

maro & Shield...thanks for posting that! Yes, we have to get used to our Capitan' and his dry wit/mind games humour! That's often a lot easier when you can see someone's facial expression...I refuse to pay the UK rip-off price for the Roma channel but Sky Italia does give us an hour or so per day devoted to i lupi and we can clearly see Totti is still carrying too much weight. His decision to not rush things and keep working out is probably most sensible, a little action against Frosinone won't go amiss, and all being well we may just see him as a sub against Napoli!

Il West Ham e Fredrik Ljungberg si sono detti addio dopo una sola stagione passata assieme nonostante il giocatore avesse ancora tre anni di contratto. Il 31enne svedese, passato agli Hammers dopo nove stagioni con l'Arsenal, ha avuto una serie di infortuni, fra cui la rottura di una costola, che gli hanno consentito di giocare solo 22 match sui 38 disputati dal West Ham in Premiershit nell'ultima stagione. Not bad considering Real paid around 20 million Euros for him.

If we manage to spend 10 million on another winger (Menez, Malouda) then I would hope that we sign Crespo and loan out Montella. That would be a reasonable transfer season. Of course I hope to god that we somehow break the bank for a Silva/Huntelaar before all is said and done, but I highly fucking doubt it.

CONSIDERING that Spaletti has already gone on record as saying that he believes Baptista to be a midfielder, how do you think this influences our formation/ 1st team selections?

i think that if baptista arrives we may see him in perrotta's spot (assuming the usual 4231). i dont think we'll see him inserted in there as a starter right away. it will probably be something similar to the way cicinho was slowly eased into the starting 11 although i think he may be in there sooner than it took cicinho.

i saw someone's hypothetical starting lineup the other day, assuming baptista and silva make it here. it looked remarkable:

maro & Shield, it sure looks like we are at least trying to get Baptista and as many of us here must have known deep down it was never going to be a loan, it was always going to be a buy case. The price figures we've all tossed around aren't so different.

Lomba, put simply on Aquilani to Juve...they wish!

Tony...if we assume Ljungberg could get his pre injury best form back and his wage demands weren't outrageous for a 31 year old then a Bosman deal would seem as you say, "Why not at this point?" He is a fast winger and can play either side but those 2 ifs are big ones.

So, we gave Al Ahly their biggest beating yet by a European team, 3-0 and but for a bad call on Okaka it should have been 4-0! A 3-1 defeat to Barca was Al Ahly's previous worst. Who'd have figured Esposito and Brighi to be 2 of our 3 scorers though? I guess Pizarro was the obvious choice for the calcio di rigore! Now we have to face Spurs who for years were my local team...
