Abbiati? Still? He's Buffon compared to the two clowns he "fighting" for a place in the starting lineup. Kalac and his "never saw this much quality among three 'keepers of the same team". What an idiot. And it seems like Kaladze is making quite a good case to be part of the uselessness.

What kind of weird formation was that? It seemed like Ancellotti was Bizzaro Spalleti or something...that was one terrible misinterpretation of Spalleti's midfield/attack.

I thought we would be able to cope one more season without another addition but the last performance, friendly as it may have been, clearly demonstrates we need another quality central defender. Can't think of anyone who we could get now. I'm a huge fan of Zapata but I'm pretty sure we won't be able to afford him this season.

I admit I was wrong in one thing....I underestimated our problems, or rather, I overrated some players. Kaladze is not starting material, for example. This alone means a new CB is a must now, specially with us likely to be without Nesta for a long while. Our 'depth' is pathetic, but its too much to expect a big change there. Get us a CB now, sort out the rest next summer. We're not even asking for a GK now as bad as that looks.If we can do that, our starting lineup would be good, our bench below avg but then theres no CL so we can afford for to work on that next summer. With no CB, we're getting nowhere. Nesta is a pillar of this team and we cannot cover for him with out current options in the squad, impossible.

Guys, clearly I haven't seen the game today and most of your grumbles are pretty long-standing anyway. Still, today's result and performance ought to change literally nothing. It ought to have absolutely no bearing on your assessment of the quality of any of the players. English teams are always two weeks ahead of Italian sides at this time of the year because the Premiershit starts two weeks earlier. The one exception, of course, is those teams who have CL qualification ties ahead of them - so it should be little surprise that Rube have been the one Italian side to do all right against English teams this weekend. I should be very surprised if we don't get rolled by Spurs next weekend. Probably for about 55 minutes we'll play some tidy football, but Spurs will be in a massively superior physical condition. And if you can't run with the other guys, then you can't match them - certainly if they've any technical and tactical quality at all. With your best 11 you'd have been comfortably beaten today, so Carlo's clearly used the match as a run-out. There was little point, anyway, to work on systems when so many of the key figures were already missing. Of course you guys are going to be pissed and of course there are still weaknesses in your squad, but today's match was about as meaningless as any of Oily's posts.

im torn between two feelings right now, one that it was just a friendly. second, as the man has been saying for the past few pages [in sum], we are fucked. so i dont know what to think.....

Mouldy, you may be fucked, but I don't think this friendly can tell you anything in those sorts of terms. If your depth is poor, today was in no way an indication of it. If Kaladze isn't up to the mark, today is no indication of it. Carlo may have been trying to make a point, as 'tec suggested; certainly, you picked a mad-cap team, shorn of a number of its most important elements, in a warm-up game, against a team who is two weeks further along its preseason. More than that, even, Chelski's players are desperate to make a statement to impress the new coach. These games matter in a way Carlo simply could never make them matter to your boys. Look, I'm not saying your squad isn't thin in places or that the BF isn't a muppet; I leave that to you guys to decide. I do, though, think that it's just impossible to assess the quality of a player when he's running on empty, as it were. If Emerdason and Zambrotta aren't up to it, then that's a judgement that has to be based entirely on what they've done over the past two seasons; today's result is meaningless in those sorts of terms.

exactly Maro, we all have points to prove and chelsea had a bigger one than us today, its a friendly we hadnt won the trophy anyway it was a playoff for 3rd place why should we bust a gut for that? if it was a final i could have seen us go a different route

There was pride at stake, friendly match though it was. I hate the so typical Italian attitude of not taking these pre-season games too seriously and all our clubs are guilty of it!

MOSCOW - Here are the declarations made by Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti after Milan-Chelsea 0-5:

"Today we had a wrong attitude for this friendly, it was an important friendly. The match was already difficult, then after going 3-0 down in 15 minutes things got even more complicated. It remains a bad blow, but now let's hope the vacations are over. There was nothing to salvage, now we must look forward. We can't complain too much about the attack because of all the absences, but we certainly have to work on our defending. Even if we are getting back an important player like Nesta, I don't think he alone can solve every problem. It will be necessary to be more concentrated, more careful, we can't give away so much.
The lack of strikers right now will allow us to work on the defence which is very lacking right now.
Flamini? He was the last person who had to solve our problems in this game. It was the first match for him and he had to be helped to give a good performance, but unfortunately that didn't happen.

Concerning the keepers, Dida will play the next friendly, then we will see. We have time to evaluate them until 31 August, then we'll decide.

On Kaká's condition there is no news: the medical bulletin said he had an infection, but if the doctors don't say more than I certainly won't.


carlo's words pretty much confirm that he feels we need reinforcements in defense and it's a nice way of telling the bf that we need quality in there pronto.
