I wonder if Shield's going to be competing with Glad for Rosella's affections in the near future. Certainly the ex-ex had better watch out:

Former Roma midfielder Damiano Tommasi spoke to Goal.com about the Giallorossi's prospects in the new season, as well as those of his own club, Levante.

Damiano Tommasi is the oldest member of what can be called an Italian colony at Levante.

After the unfortunate recent adventures of Stefano Fiore, Bernardo Corradi, and Marco Di Vaio at nearby Valencia, the Italian contingent of Levante has been recently enriched by the arrivals of Marco Storari and Bruno Cirillo, with Chtistian RiganÃƒÂ³ possibly on the way.

Damiano opted for Levante to "try a new experience abroad".

"When I sensed that my adventure with Roma was at an end - because I felt a lack of confidence from the environment - I decided to go to a foreign club because the only club in Italy I would play for after Roma were Verona," he said.

The player's ties with Roma are still strong: "I won things with that shirt and I know what it means. In no other city does a victory mean as much as in Rome.

"Recently I came back to the Olimpico for the 80th anniversary and again I felt great emotion. And it was also nice to see old friends and team mates."

This is a Roma side that has been reinforced even more this year, and who will certainly have more belief in their own strength, believes Tommasi.

"Probably Inter and Milan have something more than the Giallorossi, and the league will welcome back Juventus who are sure to be protagonists, but I'm certain that any team that wants to win something, either in Italy or in Europe, will have to contend with Roma, because Spalletti has an excellent squad at his disposal and he's built a team which plays brilliantly."

He then spoke about Levante's objectives for the season.

"We want to perform a repeat of our feat and maintain our status in the top flight for the second consecutive season, which for this club would be an important result," said the veteran.

"As far as the rest are concerned, I'm curious to see what Real Madrid will do, to see if Schuster will be able to make them play the spectacular football he has promised. To do better than Capello won't be easy; it never is."
