Frey Signs New Contract

Sebastien Frey has pledged his long-term future to Fiorentina by signing a new contract at the club until 2013.

Last season Frey established himself as one of the best shot-stoppers in Serie A, producing a string of stunning performances to help the Viola qualify for the Champions League.

The Frenchman’s brilliant form saw him heavily linked with a summer move to both Bayern Munich and Milan, and there were strong rumours that a transfer to the latter was at one point very much on.

However, Frey has recently publicly declared his love for the Viola, the team who he joined from Parma in 2005, and he has now demonstrated this love in actions by signing a new contract at the Stadio Franchi until 2013.

Frey was in outstanding form once again last night during Fiorentina’s 3-1 friendly defeat to Barcelona in Florence, pulling off a host of stunning stops to keep the scoreline respectable.

The 28-year-old, who has won two caps for his country, was an unused member of the hugely disappointing France Euro 2008 squad that crashed out of the finals in the group stages.

Al-Faresi è alto un metro e 92, pesa 75 chili, ha giocato nel Kadmah Club (1997), High School team (1998-2001), College team (2002-2005, capitano della squadra negli ultimi due anni), Al-Rawda team. Nel 2006 ha vinto il campionato dei rigori ed è stato il miglior portiere kuwaitiano del 2006; viene caldamente raccomandato dal coach dei portieri egiziani, mister Ahmad Shahatah, e dall’allenatore dei portieri del Lokomotiv Plodiv, mister Shaytanoov.

Football is full of stars who found their perfect position almost by accident and Susy Campanale believes Ndiaye Papa Waigo is one of them
When I watched Fiorentina beaten 3-1 by Barcelona in this week’s prestigious summer friendly, one thing caught my attention more than Leo Messi’s flicks and Alberto Gilardino’s inability to hit a barn door.

When Ndiaye Papa Waigo came off the bench, he lit up his team and showed himself to be a consummate right-back. Whether it was charging forward for taut crosses and shots or using his remarkable pace to track back and coolly dispossess starlet Bojan, he did it with panache. Where’s the news, you may ask? It’s that this was one of the first times he had ever played in that position.

Papa Waigo was signed by Fiorentina as the right point of a trident attack following his strong record with Cesena and Verona. Little space was afforded to him at Genoa before he joined the Viola in January 2008 and made an immediate impact with two goals in seven games and several assists. Most notably he became a fan favourite after scoring one and setting up the winner for Daniel Pablo Osvaldo in the historic 3-2 victory at Juventus. When needed, he also came on and played wide midfield or as a centre-forward. Now he is adding right-back to his CV, having played there briefly for Senegal, and yet some still want to see him sold!

Fiorentina have not had the task of competing in the Champions League for many years and may have forgotten how valuable a player like Papa Waigo really is. In the limited European squad list you have one man who can embody four different roles. Italy learned all too well how Gianluca Zambrotta could change the side at the World Cup, as his ability to switch from left-back to right enabled tournament hero Fabio Grosso to shine.

Zambrotta is someone Papa Waigo can most certainly learn from. He started out life as a right-winger, but Marcello Lippi transformed him into for a time the greatest full-back in European football. The new Milan signing can now take on just about any position in defence, midfield or even attack when needed thanks to his pace, positioning and crossing ability. Papa Waigo has all of those qualities and with a bit of practice could become the ace up Fiorentina’s sleeve. It’s not as if Cesare Prandelli is new to such tactics, as last season he tested Martin Jorgensen and Massimo Gobbi as full-backs too.

Papa Waigo’s emergence comes in the same week that Milan general manager Adriano Galliani urged Massimo Ambrosini to be used as a central defender. “He has everything he needs to play in that position, he is good in the air and very intelligent.â€

Mutu Blames Media For Contract Farce

Fiorentina striker Adrian Mutu has hit out at the press and he is accusing the Italian media of trying to destabilise his relationship with La Viola following his contract debacle.

Mutu finally signed a contract extension which will see him stay on at the Artemio Franchi until 2012.

There were fears that he would leave the side over his wage demands and the Romanian international believes the media circus made things worse with their coverage of the saga.

“A lot of stories in the press tried to tell of my relationship with the club and its fans this summer,” Mutu told Il Corriere Dello Sport.

“However, there is no point in going on, as the facts will speak for themselves.

“Thanks to the club and myself, Fiorentina is living a unique experience and I think that together we will reach an important chapter in our history.

“I am proud and happy that I can give my contribution towards this.

“I am lucky to be here because Florence and its tifosi knew how to understand my situation.

“Now we have to show everyone that we want to win.”

The Viola will be counting on Mutu’s prowess in front of goal to fire them towards Champions League glory this term.

Cesare Prandelli steered the club into Europe and he is set to continue guiding his side to more success this year following a summer of strengthening in his side.

Ujfalusi: Mutu Never Wanted To Leave

Former Fiorentina defender Tomas Ujfalusi insists that Adrian Mutu never had any intention of leaving the Viola and joining Roma this summer.

Roma had been linked with Mutu for most of the summer, and a few weeks back the Viola revealed that they had received, and were considering, an offer from the Giallorossi, believed to be in the region of €20m.

This declaration seemed to suggest that it was a virtual formality that the Romanian would become a Roma player, yet the very next day Fiorentina released a statement in which they stated that the bid had been rejected, and Mutu was going nowhere.

There have been many theories as to why Fiorentina apparently changed their tune within the space of 24 hours, but Ujfalusi, who left the Tuscans this summer to join Atletico Madrid on a free transfer, insists that Mutu never wanted to leave.
