Fiorentina seems to be looking into Arshavin as a replacement for Mutu. I must admit that this is probably a good deal for both Roma and Fiorentina.

President insists striker will not be leaving to join Roma

Fiorentina have rejected Roma's offer for Adrian Mutu and say the Romanian will stay at the club.

Roma had launched a bid, believed to be in the region of Ã‚Â£16million, to take the striker to the Stadio Olimpico.

Reports in Italy claimed that the former Chelsea forward was likely to link up with Roma before the end of the week.

However, Fiorentina president Andrea Della Valle has turned down the bid and insists Mutu is not for sale.
Intense negotiations

"With reference to Roma's offer the Fiorentina president Andrea Della Valle states that Adrian Mutu is and will remain a Fiorentina player," read a statement on the club's official website.

The Giallorossi are refusing to give up on their quest to sign Mutu, with technical director Bruno Conti suggesting the club could make a fresh offer.

Conti said: "We have had intense negotiations for Mutu and will continue to do so until the transfer window closes.".

FiorentinaÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s Juan Manuel Vargas has explained the reasons as to why he snubbed a lucrative chance to play for Real Madrid.

The former Catania prodigy was sublime last season and his brilliant performances for the Sicilian side ensured they escaped the drop into Serie B.

Vargas was heavily linked with a move to the Spanish champions and reports in Spain had claimed that the midfielder had signed for Los Merengues.

However, he snubbed the interest from Iberia and decided to remain in Serie A and sign for La Viola.

He has now explained just why he wasnÃ¢â‚¬â„¢t keen on a mega money switch to the Santiago Bernabeu.
