I posted this article in here, even though it is in Italian, and therefore many of you won't understand it. However, apparently the British press is all about awarding the 'best goal' of the century. There are 2 big newspapers who have listed what they consider the best 50 goals of all times, and the readers would thereafter submit their vote. According to the Daily Telegraph's voters,Maradona's goal against England is the best of the bunch, whereas on the Times, they haven't even put that goal in the best 50 !!! Apparently, the current best goal of the century for The Times' readers is none other than Geoffrey Hurst's 'goal' in the WC final of 1966 The Times has claimed that Maradona's goal wasn't included because it was merely a revenge for the famous Falkland war,and nothing else (as if Maradona had been remote controlled by someone above for pure revenge )
Anyway, this thread, apart from this incident, should be only for the British media BS.
Another poll by the Times, says that the worst insult in the football history, was that by none other than Marco Materazzi!!
The funny thing is that as explained by the Times, they dont even know what Materazzi's words were, but The Bald Algerian's reaction was enough to grant him this title....
Well Materazzi is starting to get accustomed to titles recently.Coppa Italia winner(twice), Super Coppa Italiana winner (twice), Scudetto winner (twice), WC winner.....now best insult winner too.I'd love to know which of these awards,he is most fond of.
Lolll and then they talk about corruption in Italy...
Premiershit: un arbitro lavorava per Abramovich
Fonte: Datasport
O Styles e` in malafede, o e` incompetente.

Furthermore to his alleged general biasness to English teams in European ties, Gray domestically favours Manchester United, Liverfekkin'wankscum and Everton.
Gray was also criticised for his prediction that Manchester United would easily win their Champions League semi final, second leg against AC Milan on 02 May 2007. This is attributed to his biasness to not only English clubs, but Manchester United. In his weekly column on www.football365.com, Andy stated
[b]“ Forget the two away goals. With one swing of Wayne Rooney's boot on Tuesday night the whole mindset of the tie changed in an instant. The pressure has been heaped on Milan, and I believe that Milan side is ordinary.
Not only will United get a result in Italy next week, they will beat Milan in their own backyard. I think they've got the Italians running scared - they're not a great team and they know it.
Sure, Kaka is brilliant but go through the team - the keeper is dodgy and the back four is creaking and should hold no fear for United's forwards. Anything else to be scared of? Pirlo? No. Seedorf? No. Ambrosini? No. Gilardino? Definitely not.
I believe we'll have an all-English final. The only question is whether Chelsea or Liverfekkin'wankscum will be involved.

LONDRA (Inghilterra), 23 agosto 2007 - "Moggiopoli"?

Sportsmen and women have always been naughty boys and girls, as our list of the 50 worst sporting scandals reveals. From sex to drugs, match-fixing to assault, all the worst forms of human life are here.
Of course, not all of these crimes are horrid. Some seem downright petty or amusing today, but they are included for the storm they created at the time.
50) MCC v Women, 1814-1998
Until nine years ago, the only woman (apart from domestic staff) who was allowed to enter the Pavilion during play at Lord’s, the home of cricket, was the Queen. Repeated ballots among the MCC members on a rule change failed to get enough support until a 70 per cent majority finally voted to end inequality in 1998.
49) All Blacks nail Brian O’Driscoll, 2005
Injuries and aggression are common in rugby – and desirable – but the cynical attack on Brian O’Driscoll at the very start of the first of the Lions matches against New Zealand was beyond the pale. Tana Umaga, the All Blacks captain, and Keven Mealamu grabbed O’Driscoll, the key Lions player, lifted him up and drove him headfirst into the ground. His shoulder was dislocated in the “spear tackleâ€
England: Great Club Players, Rubbish Internationals
It would be a major blow to England should the national team fail to qualify for Euro 2008. But for this inward-looking nation of football fanatics, England's absence from Austria and Switzerland might be a blessing in disguise, saving us all from another dose of our 'world beaters' suffering another 'shock' quarter-final exit. The truth, you see, is that England aren't that good. And that's nothing new.
Overestimating ourselves is an English tradition, be it on the football pitch or down the pub.
The fans are to blame to the extent that they buy into it, but it’s the media who repeatedly spout this hype every time a World Cup or European Championships beckons.
But look at the facts: England haven’t even reached the final of a major tournament for 41 years, and things don’t look rosy for 2008 either.
These are hardly traits of a world class national side, in fact we’re perhaps only marginally better than Uruguay, fellow faded winners of world football’s most prized trophy.
One cause of the perennial overestimation of our national talents stems from an overwhelming ignorance of football abroad. Open the newspapers or head to the websites of Britain’s mainstream football media and you will discover precious little coverage of foreign football. This is in stark contrast to France, Germany or Italy, for example.
Fixated on our own (admittedly very high quality) Premiershit, the tendency has long been to rubbish what transpires overseas – players abroad who aren’t at Barcelona, Real Madrid or either of the Milan sides are often deemed inferior. If they were good enough, they’d be playing over here.
This ignorance – some would say arrogance – has cost England many times in the past. Before the first of England’s recent qualifiers with Russia, captain John Terry was unable to name a single Russian player. Painful as it may be, he’ll presumably have no problem remembering who Roman Pavlyuchenko is now.
The abuse that Owen Hargreaves used to receive in an England shirt is another case in point. Deployed anywhere but his strongest position by Sven, English fans would jeer Hargreaves, labelling him substandard, seemingly oblivious to the fact that the guy must have had some talent to win the Champions League and start for Bayern Munich every week.
One outstanding World Cup and a £17m move to Manchester United later, Hargreaves is viewed by most as a ‘must’ in England’s starting line-up. It’s not his abilities that have changed, merely that he’s now visible to a media and public so intensely focused on domestic football.
It is perhaps this fear of being forgotten by the fans that prevents some English talents from hopping off abroad. Beckham managed it, but he wouldn’t have been forgotten if he’d sat on the bench for Dynamo Tblisi. With football an increasingly global game, the lack of English players abroad could be significant. We ourselves make a big deal of how ‘football is different over here’ and of how ‘foreigners need to adapt to the Premiership’.
So is England not lacking something by having no top players (Beckham aside) accustomed to the various individuals and styles of play on the continent? The French, Brazilians and Dutch have players based in all of Europe’s top four leagues. No, their domestic leagues are not of the same quality as England’s, but even the Spanish and Italians are now catching onto the idea that basing certain players abroad aids their personal development, especially if they’re from a country where competition for places in the top sides is tough.
Xabi Alonso has blossomed at Liverfekkin'wankscum in a way that would perhaps have been impossible at Real Madrid. Italy’s Fabio Grosso swapped the bench at Inter for regular football at Lyon. Ligue 1 isn’t Serie A, but it remains a decent championship where he can play every week and enjoy Champions League football.
CSKA Moscow’s Vagner Love and Werder Bremen’s Diego are other examples: Stars for their clubs, their confidence has exploded and they proceeded to help Brazil lift the Copa America this summer. So what if their club sides aren’t as good as Chelsea? Surely their chosen path benefits themselves and Brazil more than Shaun Wright-Phillips’ almost permanent benching at Stamford Bridge does for him or England.
Blaming foreigners in the Premiershit is a cop out. Good enough players command their place in the side regardless: Rooney at Manchester United, Terry at Chelsea and Gerrard at Liverfekkin'wankscum. All English, all top professionals.
For those on the fringes of the Premiership’s biggest clubs – the likes of Peter Crouch or Wright-Phillips – their ambition to win accolades with England should be questioned. If they were truly motivated, they would head somewhere smaller offering regular football, be that in England or – if they want Champions League experience too – abroad.
But the dual lures of big money and a peripheral role in domestic club success ultimately prove too great to shift the inertia, as too does the memory of many a past English hero – from Jimmy Greaves in the 1960s to Michael Owen in 2005 – running back to Britain from a failed spell overseas faster than you can say ‘I missed the food.’
Those who have recently spoken in favour of footballing quotas maintain that removing such stiff foreign competition from the Premiershit would prevent the likes of Crouch being restricted to bit-part roles for their clubs, and that this is therefore the key to obtaining a strong national side. Maybe so. But another thing worth considering is that great club players – as Rooney, Terry and Gerrard undoubtedly are – do not necessarily make great internationals. We’ve seen it time and time again with the Dutch and Spanish, and perhaps England are the same.
Consider this: between 1977 and 1984, English clubs won the European Cup every year except one. Just like now, the consensus was that England had the greatest league in Europe. Unlike now, there were very few foreigners plying their trade here. And how many trophies did the Three Lions bring home? So much for the quota argument.
Bolton have lodged an official complaint with UEFA at what they have branded the "overzealous and disproportionate" treatment of their fans by Spanish police at Thursday night's UEFA Cup match at Atletico Madrid.
In a statement issued by the Barclays Premiershit club, it said supporters were subjected to "a number of assaults and unprovoked baton charges before, during, and after the game" at Vicente Calderon, which ended in a goalless draw that sent the Trotters through to the last 16.
The alleged behaviour of the police has prompted the club to take action, and they will liaise with Greater Manchester Police and the British Embassy in a bid to establish the precise course of events.
Bolton chairman Phil Gartside has vowed to take the issue to the "highest level" in pursuit of an explanation. "I have great sympathy for any of our supporters who have been injured by what is clearly an overreaction by the Spanish police," he said.
"Our fans gave us magnificent support on the night and this has taken the shine off what has been a momentous evening in the club's history.
"Bolton Wanderers Football Club will be pursuing the matter at the highest level and seeking an explanation from the Spanish authorities.
"We will also be conducting our own internal investigation and information-gathering process."
Can you believe these fucking jokers?! I don't care if I haven't seen the incidents first hand, but here we have it again, more British hooligans traveling abroad and causing trouble. We've had it with Spurs fans last year in Seville, and of course we've had it with ManUre fans (and to a lesser extent Middlesboro fans) in Rome, and now we have it with these Bolton fans in Madrid. It could be argued that it is just the Brits reputation going before them, but again and again and again, everytime they go abroad there is trouble with them. How come there is never any trouble with Scottish supporters when they go to Spain (see Celtic, many times)? It wouldn't be because the Brits were actually causing trouble, now would it...?! Throw them out of Europe.
