New Lazio midfielder Marcelino Matuzalem is back in Italy after an absence of four years which saw him play for Shakhtar Donetsk and Real Zaragoza following his move away from Brescia in 2004.
A serious knee injury kept him away from the playing field for almost an entire season, but now Matuzalem is back to prove that he is at his best, and is hoping to remain in the peninsula after his Biancoceleste loan expires next summer.
"After three years in Ukraine and the last season at Zaragoza, for me Lazio is a great opportunity," declared the Brazilian midfielder during his official presentation.
"I'm happy to wear the shirt of such a prestigious club. My first training day was great. I'm here on loan for a year, but I will do all I can to stay.
"I want to recover the joy of playing football again following a difficult year due to the knee injury, and I hope to return to great levels.
"With Lazio we aim to win all the games, then we shall see on our way. We aim to finish high up in the standings and I hope to win back a place in the national team."

Lazio Join Ljungberg Chase
Lazio president Claudio Lotito has now turned his attention to Freddie Ljungberg in order to add some quality to his midfield, according to Sportmediaset.
The former Arsenal midfielder was released by West Ham and he is currently a free agent.
Roma were initially tipped to sign him but with Julio Baptista distracting the Giallorossi, Lazio are trying to sneak in.
Sportmediaset claims that Lotito is ready for a double swoop. Ljungberg and Augusto Fernandez of River Plate are his priorities.
The Swedish midfielder would be ideal for Lotito as he tries to build a decent squad on a tight budget.
Lazio are prepared to offer Ljungberg €1.3m per season in order to lure him to the stadio Olimpico.
As for Fernandez, Lotito met with the player’s agent Pablo Sabbag in Liverfekkin'wankscum during Lazio’s friendly game against the Merseysider’s on Friday night.
A loan deal seems on the cards but River Plate may play hardball over the affair.
The Biancocelesti are hoping to rise back to the pinnacle of Serie A and some strengthening is necessary if the club is to fulfil its objectives.

Lazio defender Stefan Radu is confident that his side can do well this year and even reach a top four position to qualify for next season's Champions League.
Radu wants to aim high with the Biancocelesti and has made it no secret that the Champions League placing is his top priority for this season.
The Rome-based club were poor last term and they are looking for a change in their fortunes this season. Radu is confident and he is hoping to make his contribution to the team's success this season.
"I think that the Champions League is within our reach," declared the Romanian player.
"Let's hope that this year we can have a better season than last year to be able to reach 'European' positions.
"I have the sensation that the environment is very different from last season. Lazio is like a family, with a united group, and in these conditions we play better."
Radu is hoping to have an even better season than last year with Delio Rossi's men as he continues to impress at the Olimpico.
"Last year I had a good season," he continued. "This year I prepared myself well during the training camp.
"For me it's not a problem playing at the centre or on the left hand side, both with a three-man defence or with four defenders. I'm a professional and I adapt to what my coach asks me to do."
Lazio will need to be on top of their game this weekend as an in form Sampdoria team come to town. The Biancocelesti got off to a flying start with a 4-1 win over Cagliari in week one and they will be hoping for more of the same on Sunday.

lazio on top of the serie a ladder. i think they maybe able to take a champions league spot. but it still to early to call though.

Lazio President Claudio Lotito has revealed that he plans to sign Argentine sensation Mauro Zarate on a permanent deal.
Zarate joined the Biancocelesti on-loan from Al-Sadd in the summer, and the 21-year-old has been nothing short of sensational so far.
The Argentine has already bagged six goals in Serie A, making him the league’s top-scorer, and he has formed a prolific partnership with Goran Pandev to fire Lazio to the Italian summit.
Zarate is now hot property, but Lazio President Claudio Lotito has made it clear that he intends to sign the forward on a permanent deal.
"I plan to sign him permanently. There are no problems," the businessman told RAI TV.
Reports in Italy suggest that Lotito would have to cough up around €12m to make Zarate’s stay in the Italian capital permanent.
The youngster has already drawn comparisons to Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi, and there is a real belief that he can lead Lazio to great things this season.
