Alternatively: the club is in desperate straits because the useless Italian owner has bankrupted them and was desperate for the foreign investor to come in astride his great white stallion. Now that said stallion is backing its way the hell out of there the club's just left with its crap Italian owners. Sound familiar?

Dammit, there are too many things all dependent on others to bring certain moves around...

Mediaset this lunch time tells us that Madrid will probably need Van der Vaart to move there in order to allow the release of Baptista to us. Also that the Mutu to Roma deal remains a dream. Or more precisely his being told by the Viola management that his starting place will not be at risk with Gila now being there...

On the subject of moves, the extended Brighi deal isn't finalised yet. What, I have to ask, makes our management want to keep him? If he didn't make it at Juventus, how in hell can he be considered Scudetto chasing standard by us? I won't even mention CL. Oh well, I guess he'll do as a sub or for la Coppa Italia...he's certainly not starter standard!

He's got one year left on his contract and he won't be resigning. If ever there was a chance to get him on the cheap, it would be now.

Yes, edge, but his wage demands are likely to be extremely high. The balance between transfer fees and wages has shifted so much. It's almost insane now to pay really big money for a transfer given that the player will be free, one way or another, to engineer another move sooner rather than later. The only exceptions, I guess, are with players like C. Ronaldo and Ronaldinho, too, where the club is going to generate so much in shirt sales that the transfer fee becomes a logical investment even solely on business terms.

Roma's technical director Bruno Conti is confident that the club will turn many heads next season. He says they have already injected new blood into the squad and a top marksman is on the way. Plus he is sure that Aquilani will stay put.

I'd say this brilliant bit of journalism from Goal.com is taken from a press conference earlier today, the full version of which can be on . Did Conti really say "we are doing a good job on the transfer market?" Perhaps he knows something we don't, like the imminent arrival of Messi, or something. With Mutu more or less ruled out its looking like the frontrunner to be our 'big name' arrival for upfront is Baptista. I can't really allow myself to get too excited about that, but I guess he wouldn't be a bad addition. If we got Baptista and Rosina I would be happy.

I'm confused as to why the media and other Roma posters seem to think that Baptista will be utilized as a ST? He started his career as a defensive mid and, since he's currently an AM I'd personally prefer him in more more of an advanced role than the one Perrotta currently occupies...

So it looks like no Mutu.......what's the plan now Sensistein? I've been saying that Van der Vaart is the way to go for years, perhaps he flies under Real's radar and makes his way to Rome....that would be a dream signing though...

I can't imagine that there's a worse team to follow during the transfer season than Roma...always such high hopes but very little to show...
