Hmmm...I may have to take back my comment about Juve and the CL. There are just way too many better teams in this tournament such as Bayern, Man U, etc. Juve are a huge underdog if they are to qualify. I say try to make a final 8 finish but play to win the scudetto this season.

From the likes of it and the well known ambitions of Juventus' management this season and aside from the players' enthusiasm and after forgetting the last season's over-achievement, I should agree with Dino here.

This team is built for the scudetto. Nedved is too old, ADP is not far off of that... we need to bring up some talented youth over the next couple years if we are to compete for the CL.

And if we qualify and no team of Liverfekkin'wankscum, Aresenal, Schalke and Barca misses its qualification we won't be a top seeded team which means we could get a killer group. I don't have any expectations towards CL other than qualification and a respectable showing.

We (Juve fans) could aim for Juventus to make a massive return in Europe, but how could we possibly achieve this in the presence of old world class legs and in the absence of decent acquisitions? This isn't possible. And the one to be blamed here is the brain who has preferred a player like Poulsen to Alonso. This was just a small example.

It was a small example. The bigger problem IMO was last year's mercato. Pre-season was an absolute nightmare with Tiago, Almiron and Andrade all flopping and guys like Grygera and Molinaro playing a minimal role. Last year we only needed two good players, but we signed a bunch of average ones.

This year we have signed Mellberg and Poulsen who are both above average players. We have signed Amauri who is a very good player, and recalled from loan Ekdal, Marchisio and Giovinco of which the two former are complete unkowns and while we have high expectations from the latter, there is nothing concrete regarding his class.

I have no doubts that this management is incapable of signing big name players. I actually think they refuse too! If you do the simple math and realize that over 5 years Flamini will cost Milan almost exactly who Poulsen will cost us over the same time frame it is absolutely ridiculous. The fact that we missed out on the best DM in the world in Mascherano the past two seasons because we were too busy wasting money on quantity over quality.

I have said it 1 million times... If we continue to shoot for above average players, when the WC players in Camoranesi, Nedved, The Waterboy, Trezeguet, and Buffon retire or start to fade, we will be doomed.

Alonso was never a solution to this problem. He would have been a small step above Poulsen and I know that sounds like an under-estimation, but if you really think about it... it isn't.

I want to see this club start to sign players like Hamsik, Veloso, Montolivo, Rosina, Cassano, G. Rossi, etc... these players will be world class without a doubt. Now is the time to make this investment. They are not too young. They are right on the verge of blossoming, and when they do, we surely will be too cheap to fork over the cash then.

Although, me and you, Anthony, don't see eye to eye on certain players like Alonso and Grygera, I fully agree with your evaluation of Juventus' current management and its limited capabilities and ambitions. They in fact prefer quantity over quality, and that's why we'll be suffering if they keep on their policy. Last term we needed more depth in the squad, but this hasn't been an issue, as signing players like Melberg for example will achieve such an aim. But the big unanswered question is where on earth is the quality they're going to add? I'm waiting for no answer!
