Ancora poche ore. E si aprirà una settimana decisiva per la Roma del futuro. Domani la Fiorentina inizierà il ritiro. Senza Mutu, cui sono stati concessi alcuni giorni supplementari di vacanza per via della partecipazione ad Euro 2008. Il romeno rientrerà in Italia intorno al 15 luglio. Quando la situazione sarà già ben delineata. Forse. La punta viola, a stretto giro di posta, dovrà decidere se rimanere in Toscana, siglando con i dirigenti di Viale Fanti un nuovo contratto — riporta l’Ansa — da 150 mila euro netti in più rispetto a quello attuale, oppure cercare fortuna (e molti soldi) altrove. Il club giallorosso accoglierebbe a braccia aperte il ragazzo di Călineşti, il preferito di Spalletti. Non a caso, Pradè sarebbe disposto ad investire 18/20 milioni pur di vedere l’ex Chelsea varcare il cancello di Trigoria. E Della Valle, se costretto dal giocatore stesso, potrebbe cedere alle sirene capitoline.

Per portare a termine l’operazione, il ds romanista avrà, però, bisogno dei soldi provenienti dalla cessione di Mancini all’Inter. Nelle prossime quarantotto ore, le due società si incontreranno. Rosella Sensi chiede 15 milioni cash. Senza contropartite tecniche. Moratti vorrebbe scendere sotto i 13 milioni. Huntelaar ha oggi fatto sapere di amare «i club con una grande storia come il Manchester United, una società che fa sognare»; Júlio Baptista — riporta Marca — è, invece, seguito dal Galatasaray, in questi giorni Madrid, pronto a sborsare venti milioni di euro per accaparrarsi la Bestia. Voci spagnole. E Iaquinta? Anch’egli ha fatto chiarezza sul suo futuro, precisando di non voler lasciare Torino. «Sono contento di essere rimasto alla Juventus. Mi ha dato fastidio sentire tutte quelle voci (in merito ad una sua cessione, ndr). Oltretutto prima di andare in vacanza avevo parlato con Blanc e Ranieri e mi avevano assicurato che sarei rimasto, così come io non avevo mai chiesto di andare via», le parole del bianconero. Al Fulvio Bernardini domani busserà il Celtic Glasgow, deciso a prelevare in prestito il portoghese Antunes, per una cifra che oscilla tra i 400 ed i 500mila euro. Non è da escludere che il club scozzese tenti, con un’offerta di 5 milioni, di acquistare Brighi, sebbene la Roma da diverso tempo abbia intenzione di prolungare il legame con il centrocampista romagnolo. Se dovesse lasciare la Capitale, il riminese — raccontano Il Tempo ed il Corriere dello Sport — potrebbe essere rimpiazzato da Maresca, mediano del Siviglia apprezzato dal Spalletti. Ancora poche ore, però. E si aprirà una settimana decisiva.

Roma Return For Di Natale

According to the Corriere dello Sport, Roma have resumed their interest in Antonio Di Natale, and have tagged the Udinese star as their first choice replacement for Amantino Mancini.

Mancini is certain to leave the Giallorossi this summer as his contract runs out in 2009, and he has refused to sign a fresh deal.

Inter have been involved in transfer negotiations for the Brazilian for quite some time now, and the Italian champions are expected to complete the deal in the very near future.

Roma are on the lookout for a replacement for Mancini, and have been linked with Fiorentina’s Adrian Mutu and Real Madrid’s Julio Baptista.

The former appears to be an impossible dream, but the latter is a possibility. However, the Corriere dello Sport claims that the Giallorossi have resumed their interest in Udinese star Toto Di Natale, a player they were strongly linked with prior to Euro 2008.

The 30-year-old was one of the stars of Serie A last season, scoring a superb 17 league goals to lead the Zebrette into the UEFA Cup.

The pacy frontman has been heavily linked with a move away from the Stadio Friuli, with Wolfsburg also interested, but he had appeared to have ended speculation over his future when he signed a new five year contract at the club a fortnight ago.

This does not seem to have deterred Roma, and the Corriere says they are planning to make a fresh bid for the Neapolitan, who missed a crucial penalty for Italy in their Euro 2008 quarter final shootout defeat against Spain.

If Mancini is, in fact, leaving the club, than the sigining of Di Natale would make a lot of sense.

I also like the link of Julio Baptista who is an absolute monster and would give the Roma attack some balls.

Calcio Debate: Should Roma Go For Roman?

According to reports in Italy, Roma are extremely interested in signing Russia’s Euro 2008 star Roman Pavluchenko. Carlo Garganese believes that the Spartak Moscow striker could be just what the Giallorossi are looking for…

Roma may have fallen just short once again in the race for the Scudetto last season, however few Calcio followers would deny that they were the most attractive side to watch in Serie A.

The Giallorossi’s breathtaking pass-and-move, one-touch football was a purist’s dream, and led to comparisons with Premiershit idealists Arsenal. Like Arsene Wenger’s men though, the Giallorossi have now gone a considerable amount of time without winning a major honour. Discounting the rather meaningless Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana, the club haven’t picked up any silverware since their Scudetto victory in 2001.

Considering their lack of financial power and limited budget, many would argue that Roma have no right to challenge the northern giants of Milan, Inter and Juventus, and indeed that their two consecutive second-placed finishes should actually be seen as something of an achievement. This is true (even if Calciopoli did weaken Milan and Juve), however what is also evidently clear is that it will be even tougher for the Giallorossi to shed their recent bridesmaid tag unless they provide a little more substance to their game. With Francesco Totti, as inspirational as he may be, fielded as the lone frontman, Roma will forever lack a cutting edge in front of goal.

I lost count the number of points that Luciano Spalletti’s men lost last campaign due to their profligacy in front of goal. This was apparent from the early season matches against Juventus, Fiorentina, and Manchester United in the Champions League away group clash, right through until the closing few weeks when Roma drew 1-1 at home against soon-to-be relegated bottom team Livorno.

The Italian press are speculating that Roma may opt to transform their innovative striker-less system, and sign Spartak Moscow hitman Roman Pavluchenko. While this is certainly a risk, given the fact that the 26-year-old has never played outside of his homeland (think back to ex-Inter flop Darko Pancev), it is certainly a risk well worth taking.

Pavluchenko was a revelation at Euro 2008, and while it was his forward partner Andrei Arshavin who received most of the plaudits, in truth it was the Spartak man who was the more decisive out of the two. While Arshavin irrepressibly ran the show in Russia’s third and fourth games, he was suspended for the first two, and was desperately disappointing in the semi final against Spain. Pavluchenko, meanwhile, scored game-breaking goals against both Sweden and Holland, and in fact impressed in every one of Russia’s matches. For further proof that he rises to the big occasion, you only have to look back to the crucial Euros qualifier against England in Moscow last November, when he came off the bench to score twice and turn a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 win.

One question mark against Pavluchenko is his finishing, but unlike most of the Roma team, this isn’t due to a reluctance to shoot, and indeed he strikes the football quite beautifully. Aside from being able to technically fit in, Pavluchenko would also offer Roma the potential of a modern, physical, 6ft 2in frontman, who not only can hold up the ball and bring others into play, but also provides a much-needed penalty box threat. Another criticism of Spalletti’s team over the past couple of years is that they rarely have possessed an aerial threat off crosses in open play, and so Pavluchenko would also add this dimension. As for Totti, I see no reason why he could not revert to his natural support striker role, and carry out the same function that Arshavin does for Russia.

While Pavluchenko certainly would not come cheap, both in his transfer fee (early estimations are that this could be around €10m) and his wages, Roma would certainly be able to fund the deal through the sale of Amantino Mancini, who will soon complete his move to Inter. With this is mind, signing Pavluchenko is certainly a gamble well worth taking.

This is a good and realistic transfer link. Quite frankly, if I were Roma, I would be looking at both Arshavin and Pavlyvchenko.

Oggi ci sarà la conferenza stampa in casa viola, in cui si parlerà del caso Mutu e, secondo la Gazzetta dello Sport, ci sarebbero messaggi improntati da parte di Alessandro Moggi, agente del giocatore rumeno: "Resterà a Firenze al 100%. Adrian capitano viola? Sarebbe davvero una bella cosa".
