Roma Begin Talks For Iaquinta

According to the Corriere dello Sport, Roma have begun negotiations with Juventus with a view to signing striker Vincenzo Iaquinta.

The 28-year-old only signed for Juve from Udinese last summer, and despite a good season, he was left increasingly frustrated at having largely been a substitute for the prolific David Trezeguet and Alessandro The Waterboy. Iaquinta made just nine starts in Serie A all campaign, and the arrival of Amauri from Palermo, and the return of pocket dynamo Sebastian Giovinco from Empoli, has led him to decide that he must leave Turin.

Roma coach Luciano Spalletti is a huge admirer of Iaquinta, having successfully coached him at Udinese in the past, and believes he can be the man to give the Giallorossi more presence up-front.

The Corriere dello Sport says that Roma have opened talks with Juve for Iaquinta, but they have made it very clear that Alberto Aquilani will not be included in any deal. A possible pawn in the move could be Amantino Mancini, who is certain to leave the Eternal City this summer as his contract has just one year left to run, and he is refusing to pen a fresh deal.

Il nome più ricorrente? Jeremy Mathieu, classe '83, calciatore tutto forza e velocità. Il giocatore, in un'intervista all'agenzia Dire, esce allo scoperto, rivelando che il suo futuro è in bilico: "Ho ancora un anno di contratto con questo club - spiega Mathieu, in scadenza 2009 - non ho accordi con nessuno. Chi dice che mi sono accordato con la Juventus, dice una bugia. So, però, che molti club stanno avanzando proposte. E tra questi club c'è anche la Roma".

Mathieu said he would be interested in Roma. I thought he was available on a free-transfer, no?

Juventus are preparing a huge final offer for Roma star Alberto Aquilani, according to Tuttosport. Aquilani is currently in Austria with Italy’s Euro 2008 squad, but his future has been the subject of fierce debate in the peninsula.

Despite the midfield ace’s assertions that he will sign a contract renewal with hometown team Roma, there has been repeated speculation that he could be lured away from the Stadio Olimpico. Arsenal have reportedly seen their advances rebuffed, but now there are rumours that the Old Lady have waded in, using Vincenzo Iaquinta as bait.

Juve initially were said to have proposed a deal that would see Iaquinta and around £10m arrive in Rome in exchange for Aquilani. And now Tuttosport claims that the Turin giants have upped their offer to Iaquinta, Mario Marchionni and around £10m.

Giallorossi boss Luciano Spalletti is known to be an admirer of Iaquinta, who became unsettled in Turin last term due to a lack of playing time – a situation that is likely to worsen with the arrival of Amauri. However, Aquilani is seen as a foundation for the future of Roma and is unlikely to be sold for any price.

Riise To Join Roma By End Of Week

According to reports in England and Italy, Liverfekkin'wankscum's John Arne Riise could be a Roma player by the end of this week.

Riise has been at Liverfekkin'wankscum since joining them from Monaco in 2001, however he is now surplus to requirements following the arrival of Udinese full back Andrea Dossena.

Liverfekkin'wankscum manager Rafa Benitez has admitted that he will allow Riise to leave, and Roma have been already begun negotiations to sign the 27-year-old.

The Merseysiders are currently demanding just over €5m, while Roma are only prepared to pay €4m. Despite this, it seems likely that a compromise can be found, and reports in Italy and England suggest that Riise could be a Roma player by the end of the week.

The Norwegian international has come out in the press stating that he would be interested in a move to the Stadio Olimpico, and there should be no problems with regards to personal terms.

Roma are in desperate need of a left back, as they went through the whole of last season with just one senior option in the form of Max Tonetto.

SYDNEY — Australian skipper Harry Kewell has been linked with a move to Italian giants AS Roma, reports said today.


Kewell, who will lead Australia in their final Asian World Cup group qualifier against China on Sunday, is available on a free transfer after being released by Liverfekkin'wankscum at the end of his contract.


Reports said that after 12 years playing in England, Kewell wants to play on the European continent before ending his career.


The Sydney Morning Herald said AS Roma coach Luciano Spalletti is believed to be leaning towards signing Kewell ahead of his other option for a left-sided attacking role, Manchester United’s French attacker Louis Saha.


Kewell, 29, is ready to fly to Rome next week to undergo a medical exam before finalising what would most likely be the last major move of his career, the newspaper said.


It said Kewell’s opportunity to move to Roma materialised via Newcastle Jets football director Remo Nogarotto, who spends half the year living in Rome and is friends with Spalletti.


Spanish club Valencia have also reportedly been monitoring Kewell and sent scouts to Doha for Australia’s World Cup game last weekend against Qatar.


But AS Roma have an added attraction for Kewell, since as the Italian runners-up they will be playing Champions League football again next season.


Kewell said this week he is relishing playing regularly again after repeated injuries limited him to 93 league appearances for Liverfekkin'wankscum since arriving from Leeds in July 2003 for 5 million pounds.

I know I'm not looking forward to this calciomercato...Sky Italia has a lot to answer for in influencing Serie A players and coaches toward the EPL. That's why the Riise deal and why Alfio has posted the Kewell/Saha link! What the hell is Spalletti thinking of?

I remember back in the '90s how the Premiershit was buying a lot of the Serie A rejects in amongst the quality of Zola etc. I guess this is payback time...
