I was very excited to see Cassano on Donadoni's list. Italy is in a ridiculously talented group and leaving the most talented player at home would not have been a good idea. Italy's defense seems to be very thin. I guess the Don realized Italy's best defense is a good offense. Cassano has always behaved with the national team and I doubt it will be any different this time around. I will give up on this team if Ambrosini gets on the pitch. I hate him as much as any other player in the world. I'm hoping Chelsea beat ManU in the CL final and Italy win the Euro with Luca scoring at will. I think that might keep the Ballon D'Or out of Cristiano's hands. Cassano playing with Luca TOni is going to be unstoppable.

Though naming Cassano in the squad presumably is no guarantee that we'll actually get to see him playing alongside Luca. I guess Doughnut is working on the principle that you need defenders solely to cover for injuries and suspensions rather than to give tactical alternatives or options off the bench to change the course of a game. And so a slightly lop-sided squad makes sense for a tournament in a way it wouldn't for a season. I have to say, I am disappointed to see the Waterboy in there but maybe for the first time he'll prove me wrong. I just think he's going to be found out yet again against well organised defences.

I also tend to think that Rhino's position might be more under threat than Ambrosini's, though we shall see. Certainly, if we see the Milan midfield trio together and DDR on the bench it will be hard to swallow.
