Inter Rocked By Mafia Scandal On the eve of a decisive Scudetto weekend, Inter Milan have been rocked by a shocking Mafia scandal.
This Sunday is the final round of the Serie A season, with Inter going into their game at Parma just one point clear of second-placed Roma.
The pressure was already on given the fact that the Nerazzurri have twice squandered the chance to seal the Scudetto by first losing to Milan, and then last week drawing at home to Siena.
Now some shocking revelations have been leaked, as the Daily Telegraph has exposed a Mafia scandal involving the club, Coach Roberto Mancini, and his assistant Sinisa Mihaljovic.
It all revolves around Inter’s tailor, Domenico Brescia, who has been revealed to be a convicted murderer, who is closely involved with the Crisafulli Mafia organisation.
The 55-year-old is suspected by the police to be a cocaine supplier, and he has been under scrutiny from investigators.
The transcripts of over 200 of Brescia’s conversations with Mancini, Mihaljovic and a number of Inter players were recorded, and leaked to the press. While many of these phone calls were just ordinary, and regarded clothing matters and tickets to matches, some, and one in particular are far more serious.
In one call Brescia and Mancini are recorded discussing Daniele Bizzozzero, a Mafioso associate of Brescia's who had fled the peninsula to Monte Carlo, before fleeing again to Paris in an attempt to escape the police.
"What happened to him," Mancini asks Brescia.
"How was he arrested? I told him to stay [in Paris] and wait for a pardon."
Brescia then replied to Mancini that Bizzozzero was stupid, to which Mancini responded: "He has always behaved well with me."
The fact that Mancini asked Brescia about the welfare of a mafioso exile, and suggested that he should stay on the run from police, is certain to send some shockwaves throughout the Calcio community.
In other phone calls, Mancini mysteriously demanded that Brescia immediately fetch him "two coathangers", while another Inter employee was recorded speaking about "packs of stuff" in Brescia's car.
Arsenal are believed to be preparing a summer swoop for Marseille starlet Samir Nasri.
The Gunners are keen to bolster their midfield options following the departure of Mathieu Flamini to Milan and have identified the French international as their prime target.
The 21-year-old signed a new long-term contract at Stade Velodrome just a fortnight ago, but it is understood that the deal was only agreed in order to settle a transfer protocol with the Ligue 1 club.
Marseille are subsequently in a position to demand 17.8million euros (£14million) for the player, a figure which Arsene Wenger may struggle to meet.
If the Gunners fail in their attempts to bring the playmaker to Emirates Stadium, Internazionale and Real Madrid are expected to renew the interest they showed in Nasri last year.
Eric Gerets admits that the likelihood of keeping the midfielder in France looks slim and expects one of Europe's top clubs to come knocking during the close season.
"Before thinking about bringing in reinforcements over the summer we need to know who is going to stay, and above all the players I want to keep," the Marseille boss told L'Equipe.
"If there is a big offer for Samir, then of course he will leave.
"I can't criticize the club because it is the same everywhere. When there is a huge offer made, players leave."
Blog: Love & War Inter have conquered their 16th Scudetto and divided Italy, but James Horncastle believes the Nerazzurri’s latest triumph is their most important yet
Sat in the stands of Parma’s Ennio Tardini Stadium, the oldest ground in Italy, Inter President Massimo Moratti contemplated a historic 16th Scudetto, for this title, on a rain soaked Sunday which was drenched in the sweat of his players like no other before it.
Having walked effortlessly to an 11-point lead in February, the Beneamata began to struggle and had to fight until the very last day of the season to get their hands on what shall come to be known as the ‘tantric title’ – a drawn out affair that ended with an unforgettable climax.
Coach Roberto Mancini had alluded to this last week, explaining away Inter’s inability to wrap up the title two rounds earlier with a sentence that then made him look like a sadist: “I’d rather win a championship by a few points than the 20 we had in advantage last year, it’s more beautiful.â€
MILAN, Italy  Chelsea's Champions League final preparations have been jolted by reports that midfielder Frank Lampard could be set to move to Inter Milan.
Italian newspapers reported Tuesday that transfer negotiations were at an advanced stage but that no announcement would be made before Wednesday's Champions League final in Moscow between Chelsea and Manchester United.
"Inter after Lampard," was the banner headline on the front page of sports daily Gazzetta dello Sport.
Another paper, Corriere dello Sport, quoted Inter president Massimo Moratti as praising both Lampard and Liverfekkin'wankscum's Steven Gerrard.
"They are both very good, but it's not easy to buy them," Moratti was quoted as saying. "As far as Gerrard is concerned I think it is really hard, but for Lampard, we'll see."
"There's talk (of him) for our market transfers, but he's a player who'll play the Champions League final. It will also depend on how that game goes."
Lampard's contract with Chelsea expires at the end of next season. Both sides have failed to reach agreement so far on a contract extension for the 29-year-old England international.
Lampard's agent, Steve Kutner, insisted no decision on the player's future would be made until later in the summer. Lampard's mother died last month from pneumonia.
"The situation is that Frank has got a massive match on Wednesday, after which he needs to spend time with his family, because he has not had a real opportunity to do that since his mother died," Kutner said.
"He needs to get away and sort out his personal life and when he has done that we will sit down and talk about his future in football. After that, we will talk to Chelsea and that is as far as we have got. There is nothing in the pipeline and I don't know why this has surfaced now."
Inter won its third consecutive Serie A title this season. Inter coach Roberto Mancini has been linked with a possible move to Chelsea as a replacement for manager Avram Grant, whose future with the club remains uncertain.
Lampard's former Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho, is reportedly in line to take over at Inter for next season.
'FERGIE'S MOSCOW AXE FALLS' (Mail), 'MANCINI: I'M YOUR MAN (Mirror), 'McCLAREN PREPARES TO GO DUTCH' (Times) and 'GRANT: I'LL WALK AWAY' (Star).
Chelsea manager Avram Grant could be on the verge of a rare double - winning the Champions League final and getting the sack.
And if today's papers are to be believed, the Israeli's replacement has already been lined up. It's Inter Milan coach Roberto Mancini.
According to the Mirror, Mancini is ready to walk out on Serie A champions Inter and believes he will take up the job at Stamford Bridge after Wednesday's Moscow showpiece.
The Star even suggests that Grant will quit voluntarily before he is pushed. The paper claims he is tempted by the idea of 'ducking out' at the top with victory over Manchester United, and a 'source' is quoted as saying: "Avram has told close friends he is seriously considering standing down if Chelsea win.
"He has not enjoyed all the attention being Chelsea manager has thrust on him and Avram's a man who places a great deal of importance on his family. His family life has been affected and he is thinking that by resigning after a win he can leave with his head held high."
Grant, himself, has admitted the pressure to succeed at Chelsea is overwhelming, and told the Mirror: "At Chelsea every draw is a tragedy. You need to win every game. You know you are at a top club when you win nine games in a row, which was a record, and then draw and it is a 'disaster'".
While Grant sweats on his future, the players of both Chelsea and Man United will be biting their nails in anticipation and dread as they wait to find out if they're in their respective Champions League final squads.
The Mail reports that United manager Sir tender Alex Ferguson will have to leave at least four experienced internationals in the stands and admits it will be difficult telling them that they will not even be on the bench.
Ferguson said: "We have 25 players for Moscow. That means seven of them can't even get stripped and sit on the bench. I know my team but the substitutes are the biggest problem. Some very good players are going to be left out. But it doesn't matter what I tell them. I don't think it registers or resonates with them at all. The disappointment is deep."
Midfielder Darren Fletcher is one of the players under threat of missing out, and the Scotland international is quoted in the Mirror as saying: "You dread it. All eyes will be on Moscow on Wednesday night and you might never get a chance to play in a European Cup final again."
Sticking with United, and the Mail informs us that defender Gerard Pique is to join Barcelona for £6 million. Apparently, new Barca coach Pep Guardiola sees the 21-year-old as the long-term partner for captain Carlos Puyol in the centre of defence.
In other news, former England manager Steve McClaren is on the brink of a surprise return to football in Holland with FC Twente.
The Times reports that McClaren was in Amsterdam yesterday to see Twente qualify for the Champions League at the expense of Ajax, and the former Middlesbrough manager will decide this week whether to take the job.
If McClaren takes up the offer he will replace Fred Rutten, who has agreed to join Schalke in Germany.
The Times also claims Arsenal will make a move for Blackburn striker Roque Santa Cruz, if Emmanuel Adebayor leaves the Emirates this summer.
Adebayor has caught the eye of Barcelona, and although the Togo forward has insisted he does not want to leave Arsenal, Arsene Wenger is coming up with contingency plans all the same.
Santa Cruz, 26, has adapted well to the Premiershit since his £3.8m arrival from Bayern Munich, and Arsenal are apparently confident they can tempt him to leave Ewood Park.
Meanwhile, FA Cup winners Portsmouth fear they could lose influential midfielder Lassana Diarra.
The Mail informs us that Diarra has a gentleman's agreement that he can leave Fratton Park for a bigger club if an offer is made, and assistant manager Tony Adams believes it will be difficult to hold on to the France international. He said: "If he keeps playing as he is, we might lose him. Portsmouth need to come up to his standards."
The Sun tells us Portsmouth will now jet off to Nigeria to play a lucrative friendly against Man United, as a dress rehearsal for next season's Community Shield game at Wembley on Aug 10, and when they return Redknapp could find a big, bronze image of himself at the club's stadium.
That's if chief executive Peter Storrie gets his way, telling the Mirror: "I think Harry got the biggest cheer from the fans and you wouldn't have thought that three years ago. There'll be statues of him at the ground now."
