Chris, rather than the substance of the blog comments it was the sheer volume of them that dismissed him which made me take notice. While I can't come to a conclusive judgement based on that, his mention of the players Villa dumped made me raise my eyebrows. The guys might have been young and home grown, but they certainly did not make the cut.. I mean Aaron Hughes? He complained about Aaron Hughes being offloaded? What a joke...

I doubt Aaron Hughes is the crux of his argument. Merely a filler. But the success of Aston Villa is almost wholly attributed to Martin O'Neill, from what I read.

There's nothing conclusive, but over the last month or two I've seen more posts of that nature pop up.

Not a crux Chris, but he mentions is and other players who were not up to snuff and complains. According to wikipedia (which I don't take too seriously), Lerner has spend over 40m pounds on the club...

I'll go out on a limb and say many times a club's sucess is down to the manager. Maybe not Chelsea (though Mourinho was a very good manager and now Ten Cate and the other guy are doing a good job), or Inter (mwahahaha).

The Soros rumors are still swirling. It looks like the bid has gone up to 280 million. He wants to see the books which might make him run away scared.

Lerner is the type of owner most people around here would like. He is not going to take on much debt but try to build the team so they can earn more money and then spend more money. Remember a team like Aston Villa can find itself in serious trouble if it takes on too much debt. We have to give Lerner some more time before making a judgment. The reason why Jamoldo (I assume) and I would like new ownership is to help build the Roma brand over the next couple years so the team can begin to be more competitive financially. I don't want Soros to just start throwing money around and take on massive debt. It might be status quo on the transfer market for a couple seasons but at least a plan will be in place for this club to start earning more money and then they can spend more.

The Aston Villa example is stretching it because that club would need to spend like Chelsea to become big. Very few people would spend like Roman. He has a toy not a business. We are a couple good business minds away from being much bigger.

Thanks w2k. Totti, you're absolutely right. I'm not the only one here with you who wants new ownership though. SPQR and Grasso have been more vocal and much more coherent than I have with regards to wanting this Soros thing to go through and elucidating why.

George Soros non si ritira anzi rilancia. L'offerta ormai è chiara 280 milioni di euro per l'acquisto del 100% della AS Roma ed è presente nero su bianco nell'atto di ricongiunzione (lettera) che riassume l'incontro del 17 aprile tra Horowitz (emissario di Soros) e De Giovanni (avvocato famiglia Sensi). Il magnate americano chiede però di fare un preventivo approfondito dei conti della società. Da capire se l'offerta include anche le attività esterne quali i terreni di Torrevecchia e il centro sportivo di Trigoria ceduti nel 2005 alla Banca Italease e poi ripresi in leasing dall'As Roma Real Estate che è di fatto un'altra società.

UNICREDIT: Pressioni per chiudere con Soros

Sarebbero ben tre e non una le lettere spedite da Unicredit alla famiglia Sensi. A diffondere la notizia è "Il Messaggero" nell'edizione odierna. Secondo il quotidiano romano il gruppo ItalPetroli, la famiglia Sensi e la Banca Finnat avrebbbero ricevuto la seguente comunicazione: "Si suggeriscono di valutare tutte le opzioni che ultimamente passano davanti alla famiglia Sensi per rientrare dell'esposizione debitoria con le banche. E si chiedono informazioni precise e dettagliate sul piano di rientro". Dagli USA si sostiene che Unicredit potrebbe chiamare Steven Horowitz, dirigente della Inner Circle Sports, per fare pressioni affinchè la trattativa tra George Soros e la Roma si chiuda in tempi brevi.

Egyptian Billionaire Favourite For Roma Takeover

Roma are virtually certain to be sold to new owners due to the fact that the club’s parent company, Italpetroli, possess debts in the region of €370m.

Earlier this week this was all but confirmed when administrative delegate Rosella Sensi seemed to deliver a farewell message on behalf of her father, President Franco Sensi.

Until recently American billionaires George Soros and John Joseph Fisher, as well as the Emir of Dubai, had all been the main names linked with a takeover.

However a new name has emerged, who the Italian bookmakers now have as the favourite to buy.

Egyptian billionaire Naguib Onsi Sawiris is the chairman of Italian telecom operator Wind.

Wind, which is one of the four mobile phone companies which operates in the peninsula, is already the main sponsor of Roma

Sawiris is estimated to be worth €12.7 billion, and the bookmakers have him ahead of second and third favourites Fisher and Soros respectively.

SportItalia owner Tarak Ben Ammar is fourth favourite, while the Sheikh of Dubai, Al Maktoum is fifth in the bidding.

Also according to reports in Italy, Sawiris has promised that Sensi will remain at the club in a managerial role, when the takeover is completed. It was reported earlier today that Sensi had been offered police protection following threats from supporters who believe she is trying to prevent a sale of the club.

Alright, where the fuck did this guy come from? It's goal.com without quotes, so obviously it gets taken with a half of ahalf of a grain of salt, but this doesn't seem like the type of thing they'd spend time making up. Wonder what the source was.

So anyone familiar with Sawiris the Egyptian? Goal.com claims he is chairman of WIND. They also claim that he would allow Rosella to continue on at the club. That is definately not cool with me. It does, however, confirm to me that Rosella doesnt want to leave Roma. It is perfectly clear to me that she sees herself not as interim president but as boss, point. I can't say I blame her. Hell, I wouldnt mind having her job. The problem for me is that she feels perfectly competent. Alas, she isnt. Again, she has become accustomed to the spotlight and stature of it all.

I think Rosella will be given an honorary position under whichever group buys the club. Basically do what Franco does now. And I've heard her say more than once she isn't bred for the footballing world, but does it for her father. I'm not sure she'd force herself back into footballing matters. Maybe just focus all her efforts on AS Roma self-tanning lotions and cigarettes.

But at least it's moving in the right direction. He might not be Italian, but he has a large Italian business and he's obviously worked with the club in the past, albeit a brief relationship just yet.
