I would disagree with Chelsea and say Carvalho is their best player, or at least most consistent (this weekend's howler against United being a blip). Although DD is seen as the most dangerous he hasn't had the best of seasons this year, despite ripping up the league last year. As for Liverfekkin'wankscum, would you rate Torres over Gerrard or Carragher? I think Gerrard is very pivotal though overhyped at time, but Carragher doesn't get the mention he deserves.

Lampard, Terry, SWP, Ferdinand, Neville, Hargreaves, Carrick (2006 WC Member, though ignored by Capello), Scholes (voluntarily retired so he doesn't count), Rooney, Wes Brown, Theo Walcott, Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher (see Scholes), Pennant (English but not on NT), Scott Carson (makes the NT, warms the bench, or makes a howler, and is on loan away from 'Pool). I am sure I'm forgetting someone here .

I would count Scott Carson and Carrick but not Scholes and Carragher, which makes exactly 12, Chris. Pennant doesn't make the NT I think, and if he does, he never plays, but I'd count him as English, since well.. he is. I think the greater point is that a number of these guys either aren't too influential in their clubs (SWP, Theo, Pennant) or don't play in the national side much or at all (Carrick, Scholes, Carragher etc).

My question is Chris, is this an indictment on the English NT? or on the top 4 in the Prem? Or a bit of both?
