Aubemayang fires AC Milan into the semis

Striker Pierre Aubameyang struck twice to sensationally propel AC Milan into the semifinals of the inaugural Champions Youth Cup.



Flamengo on the other hand should thank their lucky stars for claiming another spot in the last four at the Shah Alam Stadium today.

Aubameyang, already the tournament’s leading scorer, was on fire as he breached the Bayern Munich defence twice, in the 20th and 64th minutes, to lead his team into the semifinals where they will face another Italian outfit, either Juventus or Inter Milan.

With five goals to his credit and with two more games to go, Aubameyang is the leading candidate to receive the Roberto Bettega Trophy for the top goalscorer of this tournament.

Bayern assistant coach Lim Teong Kim, a former Malaysian internationall now based in Germany, was gracious in defeat. "The Milan striker (Pierre Aubameyang) showed some good touches and was a deadly finisher. He took his chances very well to shoot us down. We, on the other hand, failed to capitalise on the chances which came our way."

The German side, led by their top striker Viktor Bopp, who has amassed three goals in the group games, had several close calls but were simply unable to convert them into goals. AC Milan never gave up and their efforts paid off handsomely when Aubameyang hit the jackpot.

After the match, a delighted AC Milan manager Filippo Galli, said: "It was a good performance by the boys today as Bayern made it difficult for us. I'm glad we are already in the semi-finals but I don't want to think ahead. I just want to savour the moment now and think about the semis tomorrow."

In the first quarterfinal tie of the day, the PSV Eindhoven goalkeeper will be having horrific nightmares for some time. The match was tie at 0-0 and was virtually over. Everyone, including the coaches, was getting set for penalties when Flamengo suddenly scored a soft goal.

The PSV goalkeeper went down to try and retrieve a somewhat weak shot from Erick Bonfim but to his horror, it went right past him and into goal. Worse still for PSV, the goal was netted in the 70th minute and they had to chance to battle back..

PSV coach Petrus Dekkers said the team was getting ready for the shootout. "We were planning for penalties when we looked up and saw our goalkeeper spill the shot which led to the goal. It was a disappointing end to the match but we have had a fruitful outing in this tournament, We still have the ranking matches to think about so, we must start planning for that now.

Juve And Milan Fans Allied Against Inter

During last night's Trofeo Tim tournament it emerged that the fans of Juventus and Milan share a common aversion for Inter.

Everyone against Inter! It did not take long to understand how the fans were arrayed in last night's triangular Trofeo Tim tournament involving the three Italian giants: Inter, Milan and Juventus.

In fact, it was almost automatic for the Juventus fans to find the perfect allies in booing off the Italian champions, in the form of their Rossoneri counterparts.

It's also worth noting that the Inter fan section was the least populated. This was because the Nerazzurri's Curva Nord fan group have decided to boycot August football matches.

Those who were there, however, did not waste time, and were quickly into launching the traditional "Serie B, Serie B" chant toward the Juve fans.

The loudest and most populated group was the black-and-white one. The Rossoneri fans were the last ones to arrive. Apparently the first clash, between their 'cousins' Inter and traditional rivals Juventus, was not quite considered appealing enough.

Those who were present during the first 'mini-match' (each lasted 45 minutes), however, predictably did not spare Zanetti and company the usual boos and whistles. The insults directed at the Bianconeri, meanwhile, began just before the second match, which saw Milan beat Juventus 1-0.

All in all, it was a case of the Milan and Juve fans both taking on Inter, and the Inter fans happy to take on both the sets as well. The good bit, of course, is that nothing turned nasty!

Here he is again, Alexandre Pato. A bit less awkward than when he first arrived in Italy a few weeks ago, but still quite shy and controlled.

From his home town of Porto Alegre, the young prodigy talked about his new club, European champions Milan. In particular he went into detail discussing Ronaldo, the man he hopes can be his mentor.

"You say I'm a star, but he is the real phenomenon," the striker said to Zero Hora magazine. "I can only learn from Ronaldo. I will ask for his advice very often."

According to Pato, the 'phenomenon' seemed very available to give him that advice: "When I arrived at Milanello I got to know all my new team mates. He approached me, and told me that if I ever needed his help for anything when I'm in Milan I could contact him."

A situation that obviously delighted the young Brazilian, who has always idolised Ronaldo: "It's a dream come true for me, I can't wait to start playing alongside him."

But that's not all as far as Pato's dreams are concerned. He would also like to wear the Milan shirt together with Carlos Eduardo, another talented young player from Gremio and a good friend of his.

Somewhat uncautiously, he revealed that negotiations could be taking place to bring Eduardo to Milan as well.

"I've heard that Milan are following him, it would be excellent if they bought him, I would be very happy about that. I know his agent is taking care of it," Pato said.

The agent in question, Jorge Machado, revealed that a move may indeed be on the cards: "A major Italian club is following my client. Milan? I'll let you figure it out."

yes. he was the best brazilian player in their opening game despite coming on in the second half. i don't know where we want to draw the line with all these brazilians. as much as i love the cosmopolitan atmosphere at milan, we are an italian team, we shouldn't have more brazilian than italian players. if it were up to me, i would draw the line at ronaldinho, then no more.
