According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Fabio Grosso was subjected to racist abuse whilst playing for Lyon in France.
The incident occurred during last Sunday's Ligue 1 tie against Strasbourg, with Grosso scoring the decisive goal to give OL a 2-1 win.
That defeat did not go down well with opposition Coach Jean-Marc Furlan though, who was caught by French TV network Canal+ shouting an anti-Italian slur at the left-back.
Strasbourg were reduced to 10-men when Eric Mouloungui was dismissed for a dangerous tackle on Grosso, but Furlan was outraged by the decision.
During his post-match comments, Furlan said that the Italian “did not deny his nature and race,â€
Apparently Furlan thought Grosso had instigated it by calling him a baguette whereas, in fact, he'd just called him a poof in his ever improving French.
Mexes is a real man in an era dominated by money-grabbing bitches. Its ridiculous that we have such a low minimum-fee release-clause in his contract, but your right Franchesco, he is a great example to all others.
So what's the crack with this Inner Circle business then...?
Translated from Google......
Sorry guys, it is far from being a good translation but not so bad for us non Italian speakers.
If there is any deal likely to happen with Soros, I have the feeling it will be very very soon.
My god its amazing how quickly everyone is selling out. A season which saw us come so close yet only to fail because of our inefficiency to beat the small teams and so is likely to end in disappointment (inevitable Coppa success aside), and now all of a sudden everyone wants this Soras bid to be successful and for the club to fall into dubious and questionable foreign hands. I would of thought by now that people would of gotten used to the ways things are with Roma. Things are far from perfect with the Sensi's. We all know the story: bad (or non-existent is some areas) marketing; not much money; inadequate management of contract renewals; no English fecking website; the list goes on. But it Roman-owned, locally-owned, Italian-owned, a club which has great Presidents down through the years, Presidents who have cared deeply about the club, and while things are not perfect now, we are still able to be competitive and compete on all fronts. Compete, but not succeed, because we are missing a few key players which would raise us up to the next level. But what would you do to achieve that?
With Soras, we would no doubt be able to buy a host of world-class players on huge wages and perhaps go on to win the CL and the scudetto next season or the one after. But at what price? Roma becoming globaziled? Roma becoming an international brand? Roma selling its soul, buying the best foreign talent from around the world, having a team with perhaps no Italians, no Romans, and players who only come to the club for the paycheck and not because of the chance to wear the glorious giallorossi jersey? Is that why we all support Roma? Is that our Roma...?! Do we want to see the club become the Italian version of Chel$ki or ManUSA? Because make no mistake, if we fall into American hands that is exactly what would happen, and no amount of CL or scudetto successes would take away from the fact that Roma would just not be the same anymore. Give me the Sensi's any fucking day.
You just have to role with the times I suppose. Well, one things for sure; this is a step in the right direction to catching the English teams as the Serie A appears to have lost some of its glamour. Inter, Roma, Juventus and Milan in the CL now looks a lot more threatening for next season and the Scudetto will be tougher then ever which is what we all want, right?
Great post Shield. I totally agree with you. Being sold to an American means that there is a risk of loosing what we love most about Roma, being unique, in many ways.
However, if this guy Soros is intelligent (can he be?) and know what Roma means, there is still a chance of remaining unique.
I am not saying that we would eventually see the exact same Roma in the next few years but at least we won't become the new Chelsea or ManU, Madrid or others. Pls tell me it is not possible....
What I would hate most is to see millions thrown around to get big names. We know what happen then, a few players are really a great deal while many others are a fucking Flop. They do not give a shit and only care about their bank account.
What can the Sensi do???
Unfortunately, they will have no choice but to sell. The problem now is how are they going to negotiate with Soros. The Sensi family loves Roma and if I have understood correctly, it is possible that Rosella keeps a position into this new management. Isn't it what is written in the previous article from IlRomanista???
So yes....what do fans want??? Our season was really good even though we won't win the Scudetto this year but we have seen that this team is really starting to reach its best.
If Roma is willing to compete next season with Milan, Juve and the rest in Europe, our actual team will be very weak to my opinion.
4 very good players have to be bought and we all know that with the Sensi, the players we'll have will only be average players.
So what to do??? Wait some more until the gap with other competitive teams becomes bigger???
No way...Roma has reached a step and it is now the time to reach the next level. If we don't, even our most loyal players will leave soon. De Rossi, Aquilani, Mexes, Vucinic and others deserve better.
Whoever will come will help Roma to become a stronger and recognized force in football, there is no doubt about it. I would have loved to see an Italian buy Roma but it is not likely to happen and this pisses me off. How come there is no rich Italian interested to invest???? Are Italians not supposed to be Calcio lovers??? Roma can become not only a great team but also a really good investment to my opinion. We know what makes its strength and we know that an intelligent businessman could really make some profit from it. I am not a businessman but we know that things could be much better handled than what the Sensis are doing???
So yes there is a risk, a big risk....but 1, there is no other choice for the Sensis and 2, if the Sensis deal intelligently with Soros, new owner will not necessarily mean loosing Roma's identity and uniqueness. So let's hope!!!
Yes, Italiamia, after I re-read that post I thought it did sound like you alright. Your a big influence around here, you know. However, further to some of the points raised in that post I have my own reasons for not wanting Roma to fall into foreign hands, in particular American hands, and would hate with Liverfuckingwankingscum-like detest for Roma to go down the path of the many EPL clubs, although its looking more and more likely that that is going to happen. God curse the day. Hope your knee is better, old man.
Al, no bother at all. That thread over on RA has to be the worst thread in thread history. I have very intentionally steered clear of it. Full of 'Football Manager fans'.
Grasso, when is/was your birthday?! Have a good one buddy.
It seems like the Soros group has a plan in place to grow the club but not lose what makes it unique. I would love to get a couple more great players who are preferably Italian. I could stop my foreign player list at Mario Gomez. The problem is as of now we have problems acquiring players like Modesto or we purchase only half of a players contract. We can't operate like this.
I think this deal will be done in a matter of days. I believe Soros is flying into Rome to try and close it. He wants to keep Rosella in place which was not necessary considering Soros knows the Sensis are not negotiating with much leverage.
Well, call me a stick in the mud, but I'm quite glad the club doesn't have an English website. I know this feels a bit odd coming from me given that my Italian is a million miles from being perfect, but I have to confess it gives me great pleasure when I see Shield and 'moldy and others wrestling with an Italian article and making sense of it - Shield often complains about not being able to read the Italian but every time push comes to shove he'll make sense of an important article for others and I think it's bloody impressiev. Of course it takes time and is hard work, but compare you guys to someone over on xtreme or wherever it was who asked "what does Forza" mean and what about "merda." I think it was over on xtreme just after we were Socced. I don't care that someone doesn't know what they mean; rather, it's that there's a group of English-speaking, synthetic fans of various Italian clubs who make no effort at all to understand the club they supposedly support, understand its culture, its traditions. I like the fact that it's difficult to be a Roma fan, that you have to work a little, battle with such problems. I know that's a 'provincial' attitude to take, but that our successes are so hard-won is why they're such glorious successes.
What I would like is a club which isn't in debt, which is really where we're at with the Sensis, however they move their assets and debts around. I don't even really need some Italian owner with money to invest. I think the club as it is should be turning enough to have 20-30 mil. a year to spend on transfers. The commercialisation of sport is threatening to kill it. I know I'm sorely out of step with the times, here, but if an investment of 80 mil. euros is what we need to be properly competitive, then I'm not sure my heart is quite in it.
I have been going back and forth on new owners for so long. A tough loss and I am pissed and want new ownership and a couple more players etc.. but no matter what I keep watching and suddenly I don't care about the big signings, I am happy to support my club Roma. I guess we will have to see what is going to happen because I don't believe the Sensi family has much choice right now. We will keep spporting this club no matter what and that is the important part.
