Roma’s 80th anniversary celebrations concluded with a match between members of the 1983, 2001 and 2008 squads with Ludovic Giuly on target. Over 50,000 fans packed into the Stadio Olimpico on Thursday evening to witness the presentation of the new season’s team and mark the 80th anniversary of the club’s foundation. There was another reason to celebrate, as on July 29 President Franco Sensi will turn 81 years of age.

Stars of the Scudetto winning campaigns of 1983 and 2001 were present and took part in a game mixed in with the current line-up. Summer signing Giuly was on target after his move from Barcelona, while Sampdoria’s Vincenzo Montella, David Pizarro and Shabani Nonda also hit the back of the net. In an emotional moment, the kick-off was given by Gianluca Di Bartolomei, the son of 1983 Roma captain Agostino Di Bartolomei, who committed suicide in May 1994. Others attending the event were Carlo Ancelotti, Paulo Roberto Falcao, Giuseppe Giannini and Carlo Mazzone.
