Wow, Arab owners, didn't see that coming. As you know I am strongly against foreign owners or investment for a host of reasons, but if they latest reports are true I would prefer Roma to be bought by an Arab consortium rather than that American goon. Like Franchesco said, I think most of us would like for the club to be bought by a local businessman or group, and to keep things Italian, and I hope for some developments there. Interesting times ahead.

Perhaps Rosella and Franco turned down Soros because he didn't have the best interests of the club in mind. It would seem to run parallel with many of his other ventures, so it's plausible.

And here's a conspiracy theory for ya: This "Arab" investor is fictional and being used to soften the PR blow of the Sensi fam failing to close another deal.

Not that I believe it. What I do believe in is starting off every weekend with a good conspiracy/smokescreen theory.

Please God, no fucking Arabs. For me this is worse than Soros. If you guys were worried that Roma would lose its soul under Soros ownership, then I can guarantee you it will happen under the Arabs. Soccer-New AS Roma suitor to offer double, says lawyer

MILAN, April 19 (Reuters) - Italian soccer club AS Roma (ASR.MI: Quote, Profile, Research) has a second potential suitor who could double an existing offer, a lawyer for the controlling family was quoted as saying.

AS Roma's top shareholder Italpetroli, linked to the Sensi family, said on Friday it had held talks with a representative of a potential investor, but a sale was not imminent.

The statement did not name the potential investor but media reports said representatives of billionaire financier George Soros had met club officials. Soros told reporters on Thursday he had no comment on whether he was eyeing Roma.

The Sensis' lawyer, Gian Roberto De Giovanni, said another party was seriously interested in the club, second in the Italian league and battling for the championship.

"The offer no longer satisfies us, we need time. There is another group that can guarantee us double," he was quoted as saying in Saturday's Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper.

Gazzetta said Soros' representatives had talked of a bid between 250-300 million euros ($396-475 million). The paper, without quoting sources, said the new suitor was from an Arab country.

Several other potential investors have been talked about in Italian media for months.

Roma shares closed up 12.4 percent at 1.02 euros on Friday.

Several English soccer clubs have been bought by foreign investors in recent years because of the commercial strength of the English Premiershit across the world.

In contrast, there has been little interest in clubs in the rest of Europe. Roma have only a small fan base outside Italy, but investors in soccer clubs sometimes just seek enjoyment and are not always looking for profit.

GR, i play in Finglas in very similar astro pitches to the one's your describing. I think I may even of played in Tallaght before. We entered the 6-a-side Astro League before, and in our first game we lost to a team of lads from Tallaght not unlike ourselves by 3-2, and afterward we all said "jasas we won't play a better team than that all season. The Tallaght lads finished bottom, we came second last. Needless to say we didn't enter for a second season.

If the question wasn't intended as rhetorical, my answer is next to none. I don't think I've ever met a Chelsea fan before Abramovich took over. I'm really scanning the memory banks here and I'm coming up short. Is there any real point of just supporting someone because they are winning? Or because they are successful or rich? Are people really so fickle? I know we are all guilty of it to some extent; it's not that likely we would just fall in love with a random non-achiever like Ascoli, but there has to be something more to it than supporting a team because they have just won the league. If everyone behaved like that, we'd all be Inter fans. Spare the thought.
