Maldini 'Considering Newcastle Move'

AC Milan veteran Paolo Maldini has revealed he's mulling over whether to join English outfit Newcastle United in the summer after the Magpies made him an offer.

The 39-year-old defender has spent his entire career with the Rossoneri, but having said he would retire at the end of this season appears to be having second thoughts.

Wholesale changes are expected at Milan over the summer, however, with last weekend's 2-1 home defeat to Atalanta the final straw, and Maldini has been told he won't be appearing for the club next season no matter who the coach is.

Milan want to move towards more youthful players and it appears Maldini is willing to abandon his status as a one-club man in order to keep playing for another season.

Reports surfaced on Monday that Newcastle United had made the five-time European Cup winner an offer for next season, with boss Kevin Keegan feeling Maldini's experience could help sure up things in the Magpies' defence.

"It's true that Newcastle have been in touch," confirmed Maldini yesterday. "It's certainly an interesting offer and one I won't rule out just yet.

"My only regret in my career is that I've never had the chance to play abroad and this would be a terrific opportunity to play in the Premiershit for a massive club," added the defender, who admits to being extremely impressed by Newcastle's run in last season's Intertoto Cup.

Zambrotta To Milan – Imminent

AC Milan are just days, possibly hours, away from completing the summer signing of Barcelona star Gianluca Zambrotta, according to Controcampo. Speculation that Zambrotta is set for a return to Serie A with Milan is not a new topic, indeed the question on everyone’s lips is not if the transfer will be completed, but when.

The 31-year-old signed for Barcelona from Juventus following the Calciopoli crisis in the summer of 2006. He has not truly demonstrated his full potential in Catalonia, and along with his wife has become increasingly homesick. Controcampo says that Milan officials have been in lengthy discussions with Zambrotta's agent, Beppe Bonetto, and virtually all details regarding the deal have been agreed upon.

An announcement is expected within a number of days, possibly even hours. Zambrotta has also played for Como and Bari, and has starred 70 times for Italy, scoring twice. He played at the European Championships of 2000 and 2004, and the World Cups of 2002 and 2006, the latter of which he has a winners medal from.

As angry and disappointed I am with our situation which could've been easily averted with a bit of proactivity and vision, what really really pisses me off is that there's no sign the fuckers at the top realize, or rather have a serious plan, to make any significant changes. Don't know how reliable it is, but I certainly hope its not true. Braida is a fucking world-class transfer guru. Him and Leonardo are experts in the business and I hope they stay, but at the end of the day they are restricted as they are not the ones controlling the financial part, which is the all the matters to make transfers happen. Its morons like galliani that should 'retired' from service, to put firing in nice terms. As for Silvio, for me at least, this summer is the last chance, either he takes control of the ship and gets us back on track, or he will do us a favour and just hand the reigns for someone else to
