I think we should make some kind of tribute to Roberto Mancini. I wonder if he is a Franco Battiato fan. I was thinking of one of his songs......Cucurrucucu...there is a verse in that song..."once upon a time you dressed so fine, Mary, like just a woman....like a rolling stone...." We can replace Mary with Mancio. I know you all are not familiar with this guy but he is a legend in Italy and I don't mean to bore you guys everytime I go down memory lane. I know he looks like a physics professor but he is quite an interesting fellow. Sicilian by birth. Just indulge me for a moment. It may not make sense but I would bet Mancini loves this song. Mancini sings you know. He thought he was a rock star when he played with Samp. He appeared at night clubs and would sing. I'm not kidding.

I don't really know to be honest, w2k. Its hard to find exact details. I'd imagine we're offering something in the region of what the salary 'cap' allows Ã¢â‚¬â€œ Ã¢â€šÂ¬2.5m-per-annum, and basically Mancini wants more than that, and I don't blame him. He's not being unreasonable, and as players wages go these days, he deserves more.

Anyway, on a brighter note:

I'm not sure, Shield. Of course the De Rossi-Mancini comparison is more than a little mad and you know I was pissed off with the way the whole Chivu saga panned out. Still, I think there's something to be said for the salary cap in this era of ridiculously inflated salaries. You only have to look at what we did to Real, for instance, and then do a little comparison of wages and transfer fees paid by the two clubs. Of course money matters and you have to be prepared to spend plenty just to keep up with the big boys. On the other hand, so much money is wasted by those top clubs. I would be interested to know what money Drenthe is on, for instance or Marcelo - guys who are only bit-parts in that squad. How much is a Mancini worth? Well, that depends on your perspective - one answer is that he's worth however much people are prepared to pay for him. Another answer is that he's really not worth that much more than any hungry, talented, young player. Is he, for instance, really worth that much more than he was three or four seasons ago? And if not, then perhaps it is better to let him move on now that his value is inflated. Or, to put it another way, how much more is Henry worth than, say, Miccoli? I'm not saying he's not worth more - it's just that you end up having to pay an awful lot for every extra percent of quality once you reach a certain standard. How much is Vooch earning? And is Mancini really worth double that? And if Vooch plays four great years with us from here will he be worth twice as much then (in wages) as he is now? I know there are plenty of counter-arguments to this; I can, though, see a certain sense in the salary cap. Is Mancini irreplaceable? No. He'll be hard to replace and that's a big risk; but then it's just a different kind of risk from committing lots of moolah to get him to stay.

Well, he's been linked with your rancid rabble more than once. How old is he? 28, maybe. The most recent stuff has tied him to Man City in January and to Lyon over the summer, but Inter have long been interested, as have Liverpuke and there have been times that Real and Barca and Valencia have also been thrown into the hat.

He probably has too much technical quality to fit in with you guys. He's more of a kicked than a kicker, if you see what I mean. I think a player like Barusso would be more likely to fit in at Anfield, though even he's probably too cultured a midfielder.
