Does anybody remember what we paid Parma for Ferrari? He did not come cheap if I recall. I know we recouped some money with his loan deal but I would like to see the numbers. I am always skeptical about pretty much every channel4 artilce that I read but I think it's obvious that Roma will not give Ferrari the contract that he seeks. I understand he wants to be in the starting 11 but he does get nearly the same amount of playing time. So, I guess if he is not assured a starting role he wants the same kind of money regardless. He did play well last season so bringing in Juan was a personal blow. I say bring Bovo back. He is a natural central defender and he would not mind starting from the bench. Speaking of natural central defenders, where is Leandro Cufre these days?

I think Cicinho is just frustrated. He really wanted to play yesterday. Spalletti just needs to reassure him.....again, that he is part of the future and he will be fine. That and getting serious about his defensive duties.

I agree that Cicinho has a future at the club and that he just needs to be reassured about this. Does anyone know did he definitely request a transfer or is that mere speculation? Spalletti has faith in his abilities and he just needs to be patient. When he was brought to the club I think a lot of people thought he would be battling with an aging Panucci for that right-back berth, but Panucci had being playing well (in the early part of the season) and also Cassetti has really excelled, even to the point of gaining an Azzurri recall, and so Cici slipped down the pecking order a bit. But he will get his chance, and just needs to be patient.

Italiamia, for financial details on what Ferrari cost us, we need Pocari. He keeps a detailed track of our transfers. Likewise, Chris, for a list of players whose contracts are up after the season, Pocari is again the man to ask, as he may have info on that.

I'm gonna have to disagree with you guys here. Cicinho does not have a future at Roma, and he'll be off to another this summer. I always thought it was bad purchase on our part. I mean think about it, our weakest positions last season were on the flanks, and we go out and bring in a guy who has very limited defensive qualities. Doesn't make too much sense does it? The real reason he was brought in was to be an upgrade over Taddei. If he doesn't want to play that position, which he clearly doesn't, then he will continue to stay on the bench.

Interesting stuff, Tuna. I thought Cicinho was brought in to replace Panucci in the not-so-medium term. I thought his pace and his love of getting forward would suit the way we play. Cassetti's form has been surprisingly good which has made it harder for Cicinho, but you get the feeling that either Spags never wanted him or that he's been surprised by how much hs lacks defensively. Panucci's pace has gone as was pretty cruelly shown again last night and I should think he's going to play more and more of his games in the middle as a third- or fourth-choice centre-back. Perhaps Cicinho will get his chance before the season is out, and I'd love to see him get a run of games behind an in-form Taddei. I still think there have been so many different things which have gone against his getting a proper run and if things fall his way he may yet cement his place in the side. Perhaps he's too attacking and too light-weight for the 4-2-3-1, but surely he can offer us something similar to Max, with his pace and technical qualities compensating for his weaker decision-making and positional play?

Juan in recovery race

Roma defender Juan is hoping to return to fitness in time to play in the Giallorossi’s crunch match against Real Madrid on March 5. The Brazilian stopper limped off after 76 minutes of Roma’s 2-1 win on Wednesday evening with an injury to his right foot.

There were initially fears that the problem could be serious as Juan had a similar injury back in January, but it now seems that the damage isn’t major. The former Bayer Leverkusen man will sit out training for the next week to allow the foot to heal naturally and will be absent for this weekend’s big game against Fiorentina.

Matteo Ferrari, who has revealed that he will leave Rome in the summer, is ready to deputise against the Viola and Portuguese youngster Vitorino Antunes will sit on the bench.
