Camoranesi Pays The Price For A Bad Tackle
Juventus midfielder Mauro Camoranesi has been ordered to pay €45,000 (£34,000) in compensation to a former Argentinian footballer.
A judge in Argentina has heard a case brought against the Italian international by Javier Pizzo, a former professional who played for Argentinian outfit Alvarado.
Pizzo took Camoranesi to court after a challenge by the Juventus midfielder left him with a severe knee injury which ultimately ended his career in 1994.
The judge who heard the case ruled the foul by Camoranesi as 'unintentional' but he did deem the challenge 'reckless'.
The court was told how Pizzo’s knee is now only 39 percent operational as a result of the tackle fourteen years ago.
The injured player - who was in the treatment room for three years - came back and played four times after his injury but he could not continue and so retired from the game.
Camoranesi has been a star at the Bianconeri since his arrival from Hellas Verona in 2002, and he has won three scudetto’s with The Old Lady but two of those were revoked due to the Calciopoly scandal.
In 2006 he was influential in the Azzurri’s triumph at the World Cup. Although he is never usually dangerous on the pitch he has been guilty of some rash Challenges which have seen him pick up several red cards since his time with the Bianconeri.
