I am generalizing J-I. There are handful of decent films produced each year I suppose. But Hollywood turns out mostly garbage. Some of the contemporary 'oscar worthy films' as you say are sometimes laden with political correctness and liberal or socialist propaganda which mirror the political positions of Hollywood itself.

Check out the old films like..."The Best years of our Lives", Casablanca, Citizen Kane, Mildred Pierce, the Thin Man Series with William Powell and Myrna Loy, Pride of the Yankees, Yankee Doodle Dandy about the life of George M. Cohan, It's a Wonderful Life, The Treasure of Sierra Madre, Rebecca, Suspicion, to name a few. Go TCM.com and you will know what I am talking about. Sometimes I don't understand all of the terminology or the idioms but I am sure you will have no trouble at all.


That is just english and can give you some Italian films if you like.

Talking about Italian films, Ita, have you heard about Oronzo Cana's new film?L'allenatore nel pallone?? Sure, it is a 'thrash' kind of film, but it has many of the Roma players take part in it, especially Totti, De Rossi & Spaletti.

ita / lomba - i think it would be a good idea to set up a movie thread in the off topic section. we had one on one of the old sites where we listed italian movies. i found it to be a good resource and used it when i couldnt figure out what to rent.

if you guys dont mind, i'll ask shield to move these posts over there later on. lomba, if you have any other italian movie suggestions, please provide since you are probably more familiar with some of the more recent / current movies around. there's usually a bit of lag time before i hear about them here in canada.

I am up for the suggestion Glad. In fact, I have been willing to open a new thread in the off-topic section for this. Actually, I'll go open one now.

With regards to Italian films, I can tell you guys what's up, but even though I live very near to Italy, I dont get to see them until they are shown on Tv. That means a delay of about 2-3 years

As of now, as I said before, the biggest hit in Italy is 'L'allenatore nel pallone 2', which is a funny sequel to the first film which was released in 1985. It's about a coach of an invented serie A team, that tries to guide his team to the scudetto. Needless to say, it's more about getting the funny part of football out, rather than the usual stuff. There are numerous amount of actual serie A players taking part in it, most of all, Roma players, since the main actor is a Roma fan. Lino Banfi, I'm sure most of you have heard about him, since he had his glory days during the 70's.

Gigli Slams Moratti Over Cheat Jibes Juventus President Giovanni Cobolli Gigli has slammed his Inter counterpart Massimo Moratti over his recent cheat allegations.


Moratti launched a sensational attack on Juventus on Sunday, saying that Inter would have won the league in 2002 had they not been cheated.

The oil tycoon was referring to the events of May 5, 2002, a day that will forever live in infamy for Inter supporters.

Hector Cuper's men just needed to win their last game of the season away at Lazio to finally win their first Scudetto since 1989.

Despite twice leading, the team collapsed in the second-half, losing 4-2 and handing the title to Juventus, who won 2-0 against Udinese.

"Without that crew of crooks we would have won the championship in 2001/02," said Moratti on Sunday, in clear reference to the former Juventus Triade of Luciano Moggi, Antonio Giraudo and Roberto Bettega.

Gigli is unhappy with Moratti’s comments and has had this to say in reply.
