Shieldypoo, I don't know the answer but I thought you did. If you don't, then I wonder if the answer is in fact O'Brien and the question is mis-worded and is about guys who have 'played' for a Serie A club, even if O'Brien never played for Rube in Serie A, if you see what I mean? I've just done a bit of googling and it looks as though Robbie was historically the second which means it would have to be someone pretty recent and so I think we might know. I wondered for a second if Jay Bothroyd had some Irish connections and I note that there's someone like Paddy Sloan who might be counted by some though you might be inclined to throw your hands up in despair were that actually the 'answer'.

Hmm Paddy Sloan. I've never heard of him, but after Wikian' his name I see he did play for Milan and a few other smaller clubs. Good call Maro. No I didn't know the answer myself. The reason I'm asking is that I'm still reading John Foot's Calcio (an excellent read) and it states, in the chapter under foreigners, that since 1929 there have been a total of three Scottish, two Welsh, three Irish and 23 English players to play in Serie A. It briefly mentions Brady and Keane but fails to mention a third Irishman, so I was left guessing. Its a fascinating read though, with very detailed and amusing stories of how players like Jimmy Greaves, Denis Law, Joe Baker, Mark Hately and the legendary Luther Blisset made the move to Serie A. Not just about them making the move to Serie A, but how they all spectacularly failed in Serie A (except for perhaps Hately, who was immortalised in Milan history with a goal in the derby against Inter which many Milanisti see as a major turning point in their history and the begining of the great era for them). Of course Ian Rush (who was actually relatively successful, despite the common held view that he was also a failure) is also mentioned with his unforgettable "its like a foreign country" line.
